Elands River (Mpumalanga)
Elands River is a river of the Komati River basin in Mpumalanga province, South Africa. This river is known for the Elands River Falls, located between Waterval Boven and Waterval Onder. These fall 70 m in one drop, and are close to the NZASM tunnel. Also not far from another historical site called the Krugerhof, the last residence of President Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger in the South African Republic (ZAR), where there is a Museum. The river originates near the town of Machadodorp, in the Highveld Zone of Mpumalanga, and after passing over a complex waterfall, joins the right bank of the Crocodile River. Elands River (Olifants)
The Elands River ( af, Elandsrivier) is a river in the former Transvaal area, South Africa. It is a tributary of the Olifants River, part of the Limpopo River basin. Course The Elands River originates west of Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng Province, flowing northwards and then bending northeastwards into the Rust de Winter Dam, where the Rust De Winter Nature Reserve is located. A few kilometers downstream it flows into the larger Rhenosterkop Dam. Finally it joins the Olifants River at the head of the Arabie Dam reservoir. Elands River (Wilge)
The Elands River ( af, Elandsrivier) is a northward-flowing tributary of the Wilge River, part of the Vaal River basin, South Africa. Its sources are in the Mont-Aux-Sources. This river is named the Namahadi River in its uppermost section in the area of the Fika-Patso Dam. It flows roughly northwards, through Phuthaditjhaba (Witsieshoek) and joins the left bank of the Wilge River about 27 km northwest of Harrismith. Formerly this river had been known as Donkin River, after Rufane Shaw Donkin, who administered the Cape Colony from 1820 to 1821. Battle Of Elands River (1900)
The Battle of Elands River was an engagement of the Second Boer War that took place between 4 and 16 August 1900 in western Transvaal. The battle was fought at Brakfontein Drift near the Elands River between a force of 2,000 to 3,000 Boers and a garrison of 500 Australian, Rhodesian, Canadian and British soldiers, which was stationed there to protect a British supply dump that had been established along the route between Mafeking and Pretoria. The Boer force, which consisted of several commandos under the overall leadership of Koos de la Rey, was in desperate need of provisions after earlier fighting had cut it off from its support base. As a result, it was decided to attack the garrison along the Elands River in an effort to capture the supplies located there.
