El Dorado High School is an accredited comprehensive public secondary school located in El Dorado, Arkansas, United States. The high school serves students in grades 9 through 12 for the community of El Dorado and surrounding unincorporated communities in Union County, Arkansas. The school is administered by the El Dorado School District. Its principal is Sherry Hill. The school has won 26 state athletic championships. Academics The assumed course of study for students follows the Smart Core curriculum developed by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE). Lynwood Thomas "Schoolboy" Rowe (January 11, 1910 – January 8, 1961) was an American right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball, primarily for the Detroit Tigers (1932–42) and Philadelphia Phillies (1943, 1946–49). Jim Mooty
James W. Mooty (born June 15, 1937) is a former American football safety in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys. He was selected 1st team All-American by the Associated Press in 1959 while playing college football for the University of Arkansas. Early years Mooty attended El Dorado High School where he was a four-sport athlete. He was named to the football All-state team three years in a row and was a prep All-American as a senior. College career He accepted a scholarship from the University of Arkansas, where he was an All-American running back for head coach Frank Broyles and a teammate of Lance Alworth, Wayne Harris and Barry Switzer. Glen Ray Hines (October 26, 1943 – February 1, 2019) was an All-Pro (AFL) and NCAA All-American football player. Early life Hines was born on October 26, 1943, in El Dorado, Arkansas. He showed athletic prowess at a young age and was a two-sport standout in basketball and football at El Dorado High School. He played for head coach Garland Gregory, an Arkansas Hall of Fame football coach who also coached several other players who went on to play for the Arkansas Razorbacks, including fellow Arkansas All-Americans Jim Mooty and Wayne Harris. College career Hines played collegiately for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks from 1961 to 1965. Daniel Gafford (born October 1, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for the Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Donna Axum (January 3, 1942 – November 4, 2018) was an American beauty pageant winner, author, television executive producer, philanthropist and model. She was crowned Miss America in 1964. One month earlier she had been crowned Miss Arkansas. International Thespian Society
The International Thespian Society (ITS) is an honor society for high school and middle school theatre students. It is a division of the Educational Theatre Association. Thespian troupes serve students in grades 9–12; Junior Thespian troupes serve students in grades 6 through 8. A few famous ITS alumni include Tom Hanks, Val Kilmer, James Marsters, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Stephen Schwartz. Festivals are held annually at the state and national levels. Each June the organization holds the International Thespian Festival. For 25 years it was held at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
