El Caracazo (film)
''El Caracazo'' is 2005 Venezuelan historical film that deals with the events of El Caracazo, the name given to a series of riots and lootings in and around Caracas on 27 February 1989. The film was produced and directed by the veteran Venezuelan filmmaker Román Chalbaud. It is a documentary drama, not only about the titular tragedy but also putting it in historical perspective. The film cost 3 billion bolívares (approximately US $1 130 500 at the time), provided by the Ministry of Culture. Story and narrative The film opens in August 2002, when the activist Simon Petrov is reading the declaration from the Inter-American Court of Human Rights that ordered the Venezuelan government to compensate the families of those murdered in the riot that changed the nation, el Caracazo of 27 February 1989. Román Chalbaud
Román Chalbaud (born 10 October 1931) is a Venezuelan film director and screenwriter, as well as a prominent playwright. Starting work in television after prestigious training, Chalbaud moved into making films before the industry took off in his home country, returning to theatre where he had been a great success for several years until filmmaking became a viable industry again. He has served as the president of Venezuela's leading theatre, television, and film organisations. A documentary about his life and work called ''Román en el universo de las maravillas'', produced by Argentinian filmmakers, was released on 17 March 2018 in Altamira, Caracas at the Rómulo Gallegos Center for Latin American Studies. ''Días de poder'' () is a 2011 film directed by Venezuelan director Román Chalbaud. Plot The film follows revolutionary leader Fernando Quintero who, after the fall of the dictatorship of Marcos Pérez Jiménez, rises to power. His son Efraín, inherits his old convictions and becomes an active opponent of the government and his own father. Joseph Novoa
Joseph Novoa (José Ramón Novoa or José R. Novoa) is a Venezuelan-Uruguayan film director and executive producer. He is married to the director and scriptwriter Elia K. Schneider and fathered the film director Joel Novoa. Biography Joseph Novoa was born in Montevideo, Uruguay on August 22, 1950. He studied architecture in Uruguay but his real path was the arts.
