Ekenäs, Finland
Ekenäs (; fi, Tammisaari ) is a town and former municipality in Finland that comprised the former municipalities of Snappertuna and Tenala together with the town of Ekenäs. It was merged with Pohja and Karis to form the new municipality of Raseborg on January 1, 2009. Ekenäs is in the province of Southern Finland, and is part of the Uusimaa ( sv, Nyland) region. Raseborg ( fi, Raasepori) is a town (administrative area) and municipality of Finland. It was created on January 1, 2009, when the municipalities of Ekenäs, Karis and Pohja were consolidated into a single town. Of these, Ekenäs now serves as the administrative center of Raseborg. The name of the new town is based on the Castle of Raseborg located in Ekenäs, or formerly in the municipality of ''Snappertuna''. Ekenäs Castle
Ekenäs Castle (Ekenäs slott in Swedish) is a castle located outside Linköping in Linköping Municipality, Östergötland, Sweden. The castle consists of a three-story main building with a high steep roof and three square towers featuring Baroque tower domes. The present castle was built in the 17th century on top of the foundations of a medieval fortress from the 14th century. The lake surrounding the castle hill created a natural defense; however, this was drained in the late 19th century to create more arable land in the area. Ownership The castle is, and has always been, a privately owned castle. Its ownership can be traced back to Svante Sture (1517-1567) who lived during the reign of King Erik XIV, ruler of Sweden from 1560 to 1568.
