Ekaterina Salimova
Yekaterina Ralifovna Salimova (Екатерина Ралифовна Салимова, born 2 April 1982) is a Russian former water polo player. She was a member of the Russia women's national water polo team, playing as a centre back. She was a member of the team at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and 2003 World Aquatics Championships. On club level she played for Uralochka Zlatoust in Russia. Zlatoust ( rus, Златоуст, p=zlətɐˈust) is a city in Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia, located on the Ay River (in the Kama basin), west of Chelyabinsk. Population: 181,000 (1971); 161,000 (1959); 99,000 (1939); 48,000 (1926); 21,000 (1910). Etymology Apparently, the city's name is derived from the Russian translation of "Chrysostom", literally "golden-mouthed" in the original Greek, for the eloquent Saint John Chrysostom, because the city was founded near a church dedicated to that saint. In other languages the city is sometimes called ''Ызлататыс ''(Izlataltıs) or ''Зылатаус'' (Zılataus) in Tatar and ''Залатауыс'' in Bashkir. Uralochka-ZMZ Zlatoust (russian: Динамо-Уралочка) is a Russian professional women's water polo club from Zlatoust. Uralochka won the first edition of the Russian Championship in 1992, and it subsequently won four more titles between 1999 and 2002, also reaching the final of the European Cup in 2000. The Russia women's national water polo team represents Russia in international women's water polo competitions and friendly matches. History In the Russian Empire Water polo in Russia dates back to 1910, when the sport was included into the national water sports programme. The Shuvalov school was opened back then, featuring rules that differed from the international rules. The women's water polo tournament at the 2004 Summer Olympics was contested between August 16 and August 26 at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in the Athens Olympic Sports Complex. Eight teams qualified for the Games, with Italy defeating the host nation Greece for the gold medal. The United States won the bronze medal.
