Eisenhower State Park is a state park located in Grayson County, Texas, northwest of Denison, Texas on the shores of Lake Texoma. The park is . History The park was acquired in 1954 by a Department of Army lease. The park was opened to the public in 1958. The park is named for the 34th U.S. president, Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was born in Denison. In the early 1830s, the area was important to Anglo settlers, particularly as a route to Texas and the American southwest. It was also an area of cattle trails. Recreation The park offers nature programs throughout the year. Grayson County, Texas
Grayson County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 135,543. The county seat is Sherman. The county was founded in 1846 and is named after Peter Wagener Grayson, an attorney general of the Republic of Texas. Grayson County is included in the Sherman- Denison metropolitan statistical area, which is also included in the Dallas-Fort Worth- Arlington, combined statistical area. It is also part of the Texoma region, with proximity to Lake Texoma and the Red River. History The earliest known inhabitants of what is now Grayson County were Caddo Amerindian groups, including Tonkawa, Ionis, and Kichai. The Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) is an independent 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2002 by film archivist and University of Texas at Austin professor Caroline Frick, PhD. Eisenhower State Park is a state park in Osage County, Kansas, United States, located northeast of Emporia and south of Topeka. The park was formerly known as Melvern State Park, due to its location on the north shore of the Melvern Lake, was renamed in 1990 to honor former president Dwight D. Eisenhower. The park includes of prairie, of woodland, and various areas for recreational activities. The Melvern Wildlife Area adjacent to the park is home to a variety of wildlife, including white-tailed deer, eastern wild turkey, bobwhite quail, squirrels, various furbearers, and waterfowl making it a great place to observe or partake in hunting (by permission only).
