Eastern Independent Schools Of Melbourne
The Eastern Independent Schools of Melbourne (EISM or EIS) are a group of twenty two independent secondary schools in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The schools compete against one another in sporting competitions. History The first instance of the Independent Schools in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne coming together is in 1964 as the Eastern Independent Schools Association. Initially the competition was for boys only, and the only sport offered was Australian Rules Football. It developed rapidly to include Athletics, Cross-Country and Swimming carnivals, Cricket, Tennis, and Debating. These competitions were held on Saturdays. The 1966 Swimming carnival was held at Croydon Memorial Pool on 5 March. Tennis, Softball and a Swimming carnival were contested for the first time in the 1971 season. Maria Eis
Maria Eis (born Prague, 22 February 1896 - died Vienna, 18 December 1954) was an Austrian actress of stage and screen. Between 1918 and 1923 Eis performed on stage at the ''Neue Wiener Bühne'' (New Vienna stage), the ''Renaissancebühne'' (Renaissance stage) and the ''Kammerspielen''. Later, she moved to Hamburg, where she played at the Thalia Theater and at the ''Deutschen Schauspielhaus'' until 1932. When she returned to Vienna, she joined an ensemble group at the ''Burgtheatre'' (City Theatre), where she played character and tragic roles up until her death. Her performances, such as Elizabeth I, Lady Macbeth, Sappho, Medea, and Iphigenia are considered noteworthy. Eis also acted in a number of successful films after 1935. Edmonton International Speedway, also known as ''Speedway Park'', was a multi-track auto racing facility located in the present Cumberland, Edmonton, Cumberland and Hudson, Edmonton, Hudson neighbourhoods of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The facility featured a dragstrip, a 14-turn road racing, road course, and a -mile short oval. At its peak, it had capacity for over 30,000 fans. History In the late 1940s, the dirt-surfaced Breckenridge Oval opened on the site. The Eisbach, locally known as , is a long river and left or western tributary of the Rhine in the northeastern Palatinate and southeastern Rhenish Hesse, in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Course The largest of the seven springs of the Eisbach is at an elevation of about above sea level on the northern slope of the Hohe Bühl mountain, , in the northern Palatinate Forest, southwest of Ramsen. It is the follow-up to the Yohkoh (Solar-A) mission and it was launched on the final flight of the M-V rocket from Uchinoura Space Center, Japan on 22 September 2006 at 21:36 UTC (23 September, 06:36 JST). Extreme Ice Survey
The Extreme Ice Survey (EIS), based in Boulder, Colorado, uses time-lapse photography, conventional photography and video to document the effects of global warming on glacial ice. It is the most wide-ranging glacier study ever conducted using ground-based, real-time photography. Starting in 2007 the EIS team installed as many as 43 time-lapse cameras at a time at 18 glaciers in Greenland, Iceland, Alaska, Canada, the Nepalese Himalaya (where cameras were installed at Mount Everest in 2010), and the Rocky Mountains of the U.S. The cameras shoot year-round, during daylight, at various rates.
