Eileen Brady (born 1961) is an American businesswoman who ran unsuccessfully for List of mayors of Portland, Oregon, mayor of Portland, Oregon, in 2012. Early life and career Born in Chicago, Brady was the eldest of five children born to Charles, an attorney and businessman, and Susanne Brady, a Democratic Party (United States), Democratic community activist who served on the Evanston, Illinois, Evanston city council. Brady graduated from Evanston Township High School and then attended one year at Hampshire College. Along with several other students, she staged an anti-nuclear demonstration at The Pentagon, where she was arrested for damaging federal property and served 14 days in jail. On Tuesday, November 6, 2012, an election was held in Portland, Oregon, to elect the List of mayors of Portland, Oregon, mayor. Charlie Hales was elected, defeating Jefferson Smith (politician), Jefferson Smith. Incumbent mayor Sam Adams (Oregon politician), Sam Adams did not seek a second term. Portland uses a Nonpartisanism, nonpartisan system for local elections, in which all voters are eligible to participate. All candidates are listed on the ballot without any political party affiliation. All candidates meeting the qualifications competed in a Nonpartisan blanket primary, blanket primary election on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. The 2008 United States Senate election in Oregon was held on November 4, 2008. Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Gordon H. Smith sought reelection to a third term. Smith was the only Republican Senator from the West Coast (excluding Alaska) and the only Republican holding statewide office in Oregon. He was opposed by Democrat Jeff Merkley, the Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives, and David Brownlow of the Constitution Party of Oregon. Merkley won by a narrow margin, with Smith not conceding until two days after the election. Merkley became the first Democrat to win this seat since 1960. The Oregon Legislative Assembly is the state legislature for the U.S. state of Oregon. The Legislative Assembly is bicameral, consisting of an upper and lower house: the Senate, whose 30 members are elected to serve four-year terms; and the House of Representatives, with 60 members elected to two-year terms. Theodore Ralph Kulongoski ( ; born November 5, 1940) is an American politician, judge, and lawyer who served as the 36th Governor of Oregon from 2003 to 2011.
