Eila Pehkonen
Eila Mirjam Pehkonen (since 1948 Kostermaa, 18 October 1924 – 10 September 1991) was a Finnish actress. In theatre and films Pehkonen was born into a family of five children. She was interested in acting and theatre since childhood, and in 1945, Pehkonen began her studies at the Helsinki Theatre Academy, graduating in 1947. During her career, she worked for several Finnish theatres. Among her colleagues in theatre, she was known as "Pehkis". Pehkonen's film career started with two memorable roles in films directed by Valentin Vaala; the title character in ''Maaret – tunturien tyttö (1947)'' and the female lead role in '' Ihmiset suviyössä'' (1948). Private life Since 1948, Pehkonen was married to actor and opera director Yrjö Kostermaa (1921–1997). Together they had two children. Helsinki Theatre Academy
The Theatre Academy ( fi, Teatterikorkeakoulu, sv, Teaterhögskolan) is one of the three academies of the University of the Arts Helsinki and offers education in theatre and dance. It is Finland's largest education provider in its field and, with the exception of acting, the only one in the country. In September 2014, there were 349 students at TeaK: 315 in the bachelor and master programmes, and the remaining 34 were studying for a licentiate or doctoral degree. The current dean of the Theatre Academy is Maarit Ruikka, and the vice-deans are Leena Rouhiainen and Ari Tenhula. Valentin Vaala (born Valentin Yakovich Ivanoff, Russian: Валентин Якович Иванов; 13 October 1909 in Helsinki – 21 November 1976 in Helsinki) was a Finnish film director, screenwriter and film editor. Ihmiset Suviyössä (film)
''Ihmiset suviyössä'' (''People in the Summer Night'') is a Finnish film from 1948. Directed by Valentin Vaala, it is based on Frans Eemil Sillanpää's 1934 novel of the same title. Plot The film concentrates on the destinies of a small group of people during one summer night. All events in the film are told from two different perspectives. During the night people are falling in love, fighting drunk, dying, and being born. Nature is just as important a part of the movie as the actors are. The novelist Sillanpää himself had told Vaala to keep in mind that there should be only one main character, and that is the summer night. Reception ''Ihmiset suviyössä'' received mostly positive reviews from Finnish critics. They especially praised Eino Heino's cinematography, stating that such beautiful and sensitive capturing of Finnish nature had never before been seen in domestic films. ''Time of Roses'' ( fi, Ruusujen aika) is a 1969 Finnish science fiction film directed by Risto Jarva, about an innocent girl glamour model legend and a journalist trying to find out her true essence for a biography. The story is set in the year 2012. The script was written by Peter von Bagh, Jarva, and Jaakko Pakkasvirta.
