Eihi Shiina
is a Japanese fashion model and actress from Fukuoka, Japan. She got her first big break in 1995, working for Benetton, after which she represented Japan at the global Elite Model Look '95. More magazine work followed. Shiina made her film debut in 1998 with ''Open House''. She also published a book of photographs and poems, entitled ''No Filter, Only Eyes'', that same year. Yoshihiro Nishimura
is a Japanese film director, special effects and makeup effects artist, and a screenwriter who has worked predominantly in the horror genre. Nishimura has been described as "a legendary director and effects artist" and "the Tom Savini of Japan" with "talent to burn". Life and career Nishimura, born on April 1, 1967, had been interested in film from childhood but a major influence on his career was a painting by Salvador Dalí with distorted human bodies that he saw when in elementary school. He majored in law in college. Nishimura has said that he doesn't watch much television or movies but reads horror magazines and gets much of his inspiration from his dreams. He started making films while in junior high school by teaching himself about filming, lighting, special effects and modeling. Kodoku Meatball Machine
, also called , , and is a type of poisonous magic found in Japanese folklore. It is the Japanese derivative of the Chinese Gu magic. To create kodoku, sorcerers would mix several insects in a jar, and let them kill one another until only one survived. The fluids of the insect that survived would be used to poison an individual with a curse that would control them, cause them misfortune, or kill them. The remaining insect could also be used as a sort of "luck charm" granting the one who performed the ritual great wealth. In return the owner is supposed to feed the bug. Neglecting to do so would enrage the insect, if the owner does not equivalently repay the insect by placing all his or her riches beside a road, plus interest in gold and silver, the insect would devour the home owner. Synopsis A girl named Kika and her father hide from her mother, Rikka, who has gone insane and resorted to cannibalism, as well as her uncle, Yasushi, who aids his sister in her crimes. They find the two hiding in an abandoned town and incinerate Kika's father to death. Before the homicidal siblings can kill Kika, a meteorite falls from the sky inexplicably and hits Rikka, punching through her and destroying her heart. In her last breath, Rikka rips out Kika's heart and puts it in her chest. Immediately after, an unknown substance encases the two, putting them in cocoon-like states. Black ash emits from Rikka and eventually covers the northern half of Japan. People who inhale the ash are turned into bloodthirsty zombies.
