Eifel Literature Festival
The Eifel Literatur Festival (german: Eifel Literatur Festival) is a volunteer-organized literature event held in the Eifel mountains in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate every two years as part of the state's "Cultural Summer". The aim of the festival is to raise the Eifel onto the European literature stage. The festival originated from a private initiative by Germanic scholar, Dr. Josef Zierden. In 1994, he inaugurated the Eifel Literature Festival in the town of Prüm, in the small cashier's room of a bank, as an accompanying programme for the presentation of his book "The Eifel in Literature". History Until 2001, the focus was on belletristic literature from or about the Eifel. Eifel Mountains
The Eifel (; lb, Äifel, ) is a low mountain range in western Germany and eastern Belgium. It occupies parts of southwestern North Rhine-Westphalia, northwestern Rhineland-Palatinate and the southern area of the German-speaking Community of Belgium. The Eifel is part of the Rhenish Massif; within its northern portions lies the Eifel National Park. Geography Location The Eifel lies between the cities of Aachen to the north, Trier to the south and Koblenz to the east. It descends in the northeast along a line from Aachen via Düren to Bonn into the Lower Rhine Bay. In the east and south it is bounded by the valleys of the Rhine and the Moselle. Anselm Grün
Anselm Grün (in English also: Anselm Gruen), OSB (born 14 January 1945 in , Germany) is a German Benedictine monk. He is in charge of Münsterschwarzach Abbey's financial matters, as its ''cellarer''. He has written around 300 books focused on spirituality, of which more than 15 million copies have been sold in 30 languages. He also conducts courses and lectures, and provides spiritual counseling for managers. Michael Degen
Michael Degen (31 January 1928 – 9 April 2022) was a German-Israeli actor, in film and theatre, as well as a theatre director and writer. Early life Born in Chemnitz as the younger son of Jewish parents, Degen survived the Holocaust in Berlin, while his older brother was sent to Palestine via Denmark and Sweden. His father, Jacob Degen, was a language professor and businessman of Russian Jewish descent. On 13 September 1939, Jacob Degen was arrested by the Secret State Police and taken to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Subjected to severe abuse over the weeks that followed, he was released on 2 February 1940 but never recovered from his injuries, dying shortly afterward. Tom Buhrow (born 29 September 1958, in Troisdorf) is a German journalist who has been serving as intendant of the Westdeutscher Rundfunk, WDR since 2013. Norbert Blüm
Norbert Blüm (21 July 1935 – 23 April 2020) was a German politician who served as a federal legislator from North Rhine-Westphalia, chairman of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia (1987–1999), and Minister of Labour and Social Affairs. Peter Bichsel
Peter Bichsel (born 24 March 1935) is a popular Swiss writer and journalist representing modern German literature. He was a member of the Gruppe Olten. Bichsel was born 1935 in Lucerne, Switzerland, the son of manual labourers. Shortly after he was born, the Bichsels moved to Olten, also in Switzerland. After finishing school, he became an elementary school teacher, a job which he held until 1968. From 1974 to 1981 he was the personal advisor and speech writer of Willy Ritschard, a member of the Swiss Federal Council. Between 1972 and 1989 he made his mark as a "writer in residence" and a guest lecturer at American universities. Bichsel has lived on the outskirts of Solothurn for several decades. Klaus Bednarz
Klaus Bednarz (6 June 1942 – 14 April 2015) was a German journalist and writer. Life Bednarz was born in Falkensee, Province of Brandenburg. He studied Slavic studies, theatre and Eastern European history at universities in Hamburg, Vienna and Moscow. His dissertation at university was on Russian author Anton Chekhov. Since 1967 Bednarz worked for German television as correspondent in Poland (1971–1977) and in the Soviet Union (1977–1982). Later he was television presenter of the German TV programme ''Monitor'', broadcast by Westdeutscher Rundfunk. Roger Willemsen (15 August 1955 – 7 February 2016) was a German author, essayist and TV presenter. Biography Willemsen was born and passed his Abitur in Bonn. Ingo Schulze (born 15 December 1962) is a German writer born in Dresden in former East Germany. He studied classical philology at the University of Jena for five years, and, until German reunification, was an assistant director (dramatic arts advisor) at the State Theatre in Altenburg 45 km south of Leipzig for two years. After sleeping through the events of the night of 9 November 1989, Schulze started a newspaper with friends. He was encouraged to write.
