Geography The Burnett Highway passes through the locality from the south to the north-east. Its intersection with the Waruma Dam Road is the official location of the town but there is no settlement there today. The now-closed Monto Branch Railway passed from north to south through the locality passing through the former town, which was served by the now-abandoned Cynthia railway station (). The Burnett River bounds the locality to the east. General information Etymology The first element is the genitive case of the word ''eid'' (Old Norse: ''eið'') and the last element is ''voll'' (Old Norse: ''vǫllr'') which means "meadow" or "field". The meaning of the word ''eid'' in this case is "a road passing around a waterfall". People from the districts around the lake ( Mjøsa) who were sailing down the river Vorma, and people from Romerike sailing up the same river, both had to enter this area by passing the Sundfossen waterfall. The Archer brothers were among the earliest European settlers in Queensland, Australia. They were explorers and pastoralists. Seven sons of William Archer, a Scottish timber merchant, they spent varying amounts of time in the colony of New South Wales, mainly in parts of what later became Queensland. The North Burnett Region is a local government area in Queensland, Australia in the northern catchment of the Burnett River.
