Egill Jacobsen
Egill Jacobsen (16 December 1910 – 21 April 1998) was a Danish painter who became a professor at the Royal Danish Academy. Biography Born in Copenhagen, Jacobsen studied painting at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under Kræsten Iversen and Peder Hald (1932-33). His earliest paintings were inspired by traditional Danish landscape painting under the influence of Albert Gottschalk but after visiting Paris in 1934 when he experienced the work of Matisse and Picasso, he began to create Abstract images of brightly coloured beak-shaped masked figures inspired by ethnographic art. He went on to paint a series of works devoid of any motifs in which colour was the only criterion for expression. From 1940, he produced more masked images with geometrical shapes depicting teeth, eggs and other such features in pure spectral colours. The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts ( da, Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi - Billedkunst Skolerne) has provided education in the arts for more than 250 years, playing its part in the development of the art of Denmark. History The Royal Danish Academy of Portraiture, Sculpture, and Architecture in Copenhagen was inaugurated on 31 March 1754, and given as a gift to the King Frederik V on his 31st birthday. Its name was changed to the Royal Danish Academy of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture in 1771. At the same event, Johann Friedrich Struensee introduced a new scheme in the academy to encourage artisan apprentices to take supplementary classes in drawing so as to develop the notion of "good taste". Kræsten Iversen
Kristen "Kræsten" Iversen (, 26 January 1886 - 9 August 1955) was a Danish artist who is remembered both for his paintings and his painted glass windows. He was a member of the Bornholm school of painters and a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts . Biography Iversen was born in the parish of Holsted in Vejen Municipality, Denmark. He was the son of Niels Laurids Pedersen (1848–1902) and Grethe Hansen (1851–1910). Between 1904-1905, He trained at the Copenhagen Technical College. He exhibited several time during 1910-1918 at the Artists' Autumn Exhibition. In 1919, he exhibited four works at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition. In 1920, he visited Bornholm for the first time where the natural colours and distinctive light influenced his landscapes . Albert Gottschalk
Albert Gottschalk (3 July 1866 – 13 February 1906) was a Danish painter. He had a close connection, personally and artistically, to the poets Johannes Jørgensen, Viggo Stuckenberg and Sophus Claussen. Biography Albert Gottschalk was born in Stege on the island of Møn. but later moved to Copenhagen. He was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1882 to 1883 and under Peder Severin Krøyer at the Artists Studio Schools from 1883 to 1888. He also studied privately with Karl Jensen and Karl Madsen. Gottschalk was inspired by the Danish painter P.S. Krøyer as well as French art. Gottschalk was ambitious, technically skilled, and he worked a long time with his motifs in his mind before painting them. He searched for his motifs in Denmark on his bicycle, and he found them often around Copenhagen. Matisse
Henri Émile Benoît Matisse (; 31 December 1869 – 3 November 1954) was a French visual artist, known for both his use of colour and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. He was a draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor, but is known primarily as a painter. Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Pablo Picasso, as one of the artists who best helped to define the revolutionary developments in the visual arts throughout the opening decades of the twentieth century, responsible for significant developments in painting and sculpture. Abstract art uses visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world.
