Egil Olbjørn
Egil Yngvar Olbjørn (3 August 1902 – 1 February 1982) was a Norwegian police leader. He came to prominence during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, as a member of Nasjonal Samling and supporter of Jonas Lie. He headed the police branch Ordenspolitiet. To a certain degree he tried to resist German control, and was imprisoned for a short period in the autumn of 1944. He was saved from prison by Jonas Lie, and Olbjørn stood by Lie's side when they entrenched themselves at Skallum on 8 May 1945 after the Nazi capitulation; however Olbjørn gave up, and left Skallum some days before Lie (who died there on 11 May). Olbjørn is also known as a judge (together with Karl Marthinsen and Egil Reichborn-Kjennerud) in the special court that sentenced Gunnar Eilifsen to death in 1943. Hans Fredrik Dahl (born 16 October 1939) is a Norwegian historian, journalist and media scholar, best known in the English-speaking world for his biography of Vidkun Quisling, a Nazi collaborationist and Minister President for Norway during the Second World War. His research is focused on media history, the totalitarian ideologies of the 20th century, and the Second World War. He served as culture editor of ''Dagbladet'' 1978–1985 and has been a board member of the paper since 1996. He was a professor at the University of Oslo 1988–2009, and is now a professor emeritus. The purge in Norway after World War II was a purge that took place between May 1945 and August 1948 against anyone who was deemed to have collaborated with the German occupation of the country. Several thousand Norwegians and foreign citizens were tried and convicted for crimes committed in Scandinavia during the Second World War. However, the scope, legal basis, and fairness of these trials has since been a matter of some debate. A total of 40 people—including Vidkun Quisling, the Prime Minister of Norway during the occupation—were executed after capital punishment was reinstated in Norway. Thirty-seven of those executed were executed under Norwegian law, while the other three were executed under Allied military law. In 1943, during the Nazi occupation of Norway, he was executed for disobedience when he refused to arrest five girls who did not show up for forced labour.
