Edwyn Alexander-Sinclair
Admiral Sir Edwyn Sinclair Alexander-Sinclair, (born Alexander; 12 December 1865 – 13 November 1945) was a Scottish Royal Navy officer, notable for firing the first shots of the Battle of Jutland, and for leading a squadron of light cruisers in the Baltic to support independence of Estonia and Latvia in 1918 to 1919. Early life and education Sinclair Alexander-Sinclair was born in Malta, the second son of Captain John Hobhouse Inglis Alexander of the Royal Navy, who served as '' aide-de-camp'' to Queen Victoria, and Isabella Barbara Hume, daughter of Thomas Cochrane Hume. Edwyn Robert Bevan OBE, FBA (15 February 1870 in London – 18 October 1943 in London) was a versatile British philosopher and historian of the Hellenistic world. Life Edwyn Robert Bevan was the fourteenth of sixteen children of Robert Cooper Lee Bevan, a partner in Barclays Bank, and his second wife Emma Frances Shuttleworth, daughter of Philip Nicholas Shuttleworth, Bishop of Chichester. He was educated at Monkton Combe School and at New College, Oxford. Bevan held an academic position at King's College London as Lecturer in Hellenistic History and Literature. Edwyn Burnaby (29 September 1798 – 18 July 1867) of Baggrave Hall, Leicestershire, was an English landowner, courtier,''Gentleman's Magazine'', September 1867, p. 398 a Justice of the Peace, Deputy Lieutenant, and High Sheriff of Leicestershire in 1864. He succeeded his father in the Court post of Gentleman of the Privy chamber. Edwyn Stephen Collins (born 23 August 1959) is a Scottish musician, producer and record label owner from Edinburgh, Scotland. Collins was the lead singer for the 1980s post-punk band Orange Juice, which he co-founded. After the group split in 1985, Collins started a solo career. His 1995 single " A Girl Like You" was a worldwide hit. In February 2005, Collins was hospitalised after two cerebral haemorrhages which resulted in aphasia, and he needed months to recover. He resumed his musical career in 2007. A documentary film on his recovery, ''The Possibilities Are Endless'', was released in 2014. Edwyn Robert "Bob" Owen (June 8, 1936 – October 5, 2007) was an American star hockey player at Harvard and played on the 1960 U.S. hockey team that won an Olympic gold medal for the United States. He later battled schizophrenia. Ice hockey Owen grew up in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and attended Harvard University, where he was a defenseman on three Ivy League championship teams. In 1957, he won Harvard’s Angier Trophy for the player who made the greatest improvement. He graduated from Harvard in 1958. Edwyn Sherard Burnaby (22 May 1830 – 31 May 1883) was a major-general''Gentleman's Magazine'', September 1867, p. 398 and Conservative Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Leicestershire North from 1880 until his death. He served in the Crimean War. Biography The son of Edwyn Burnaby and Anne Caroline Salisbury, Burnaby was educated at Eton College and in 1848 entered the Grenadier Guards, serving at Inkerman and in the Siege of Sebastopol. He was the brigadier-general of the British Italian Legion from 1855 to 1857. Burnaby was appointed Honorary Colonel of the 1st Leicestershire Rifle Volunteer Corps in 1878. Sir Edwyn Hoskyns, 12th Baronet (22 May 18512 December 1925) was a British Anglican bishop who served in the Church of England in the early 20th century. Early life Edwyn Hoskyns was born at Aston Tirrold (where his father was Rector), fourth son of John Leigh Hoskyns ( 9th Baronet) and Emma (daughter of John Peyton KCH). He was educated at Lancing College, Haileybury and Imperial Service College, and then Jesus College, Cambridge, from which he obtained a BA in 1873 and MA in 1880. He was succeeded in the baronetcy by his only son, theologian Edwyn Clement Hoskyns (1884–1937). Sir Edwyn Clement Hoskyns, 13th Baronet, (9 August 1884 – 28 June 1937) was an English Anglican priest and theologian. Career Hoskyns was born on 9 August 1884 in Notting Hill, London, the eldest child and only son of Bishop Edwyn Hoskyns and his wife Mary Constance Maude Benson. He was educated at Haileybury College, Jesus College, Cambridge and Wells Theological College, graduating from the latter in 1907. Hoskyns was a fellow and Dean of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and a notable biblical scholar. On his father's death in 1925, he succeeded to the Hoskyns baronetcy. His influence on the next generation of clergymen was considerable, e.g., on Michael Ramsey, Gabriel Hebert, Christopher Evans, Donald Lynch, and C. K. Barrett.
