Edwin Mitchelson
Sir Edwin Mitchelson (7 April 1846 – 11 April 1934) was a New Zealand politician and timber merchant. Member of Parliament Mitchelson was born in Auckland in a cottage on Queen Street, Auckland, Queen Street in the mid 1840s. He developed business interests in timber and kauri gum, shipbuilding, and horse racing and breeding. He was a cabinet minister from 1883 to 1884 and 1887 to 1880 as Minister of Public Works. From 1887 to 1891 he was Minister of Māori Affairs (called Native Affairs), and from 1889 to 1891 he was Minister of Telegraphs and Postmaster-General. He represented the Marsden (New Zealand electorate), Marsden electorate from to 1887, then Eden (New Zealand electorate), Eden from to 1896, when he was defeated (for the City of Auckland (New Zealand electorate), City of Auckland electorate). Meadowbank is a suburb of Auckland city, situated in the North Island of New Zealand. Meadowbank is governed under the local governance of the Auckland Council. The Mayor of Auckland is the directly elected head of the Auckland Council, the local government authority for the Auckland Region in New Zealand, which it controls as a unitary authority. The position exists since October 2010 after the amalgamation of various territorial authorities. The mayor is supported by a deputy mayor. Background The position was first filled by election on 9 October 2010 for the establishment of the Auckland Council on 1 November 2010. Patrick Buckley (politician)
Sir Patrick Alphonsus Buckley ( – 18 May 1896) was a New Zealand soldier, lawyer, statesman, and judge who held several high government posts in Wellington in the early 1890s. Early life Buckley was probably born in 1840 or 1841, near Castletownshend, County Cork, Ireland. He was educated at the Mansion House School, Cork; St. Colman's College, Paris; the Irish College in Paris; and the Catholic University, Leuven. Buckley was in Leuven when the Piedmontese invaded the Papal States in 1860, and at the request of Count Carlo MacDonnell, Private Chamberlain to Pope Pius IX, he brought the recruits of the Irish Papal Brigade from Ostend to Vienna, where they were placed under representatives of the Holy See. John Bollard (politician)
John Bollard (1839 or 1840 – 23 March 1915) was an independent conservative, then Reform Party (1908), Member of Parliament in New Zealand. He was elected to the Eden electorate in the 1896 general election, and retired in 1914. Biography Bollard was born in County Wicklow, Ireland, on either 17 December 1839 or 1 January 1840. He spent a short time in the Australian goldfields around 1860–61. He then went from Sydney to Auckland, New Zealand, taking 200 horses on behalf of the military authorities, for the use of militia, war having broken out between Māori and the government a short time before. Soon after arriving in Auckland he met Jane Ganly, who had also immigrated from Ireland. They were married at St John's College on 9 May 1861.
