Edwin J. Godfrey
Edwin J. Godfrey (16 September 193212 April 2002) was a United States Marine Corps general. Personal life Edwin J. Godfrey was born on 16 September 1932 in Montclair, New Jersey. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1954, and died on 12 April 2002 in San Diego, California. Military career Godfrey was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in June 1954. After graduation from The Basic School, he was assigned to the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Through 1964, he had assignments to the United States European Command headquarters, Camp Pendleton with the 1st Marine Division, and Okinawa Prefecture with the 3rd Marine Division. During the Vietnam War, while assigned to the 3rd Marine Division, Godfrey commanded the 3rd Shore Party Battalion and was then S-3 of the 9th Marines. United States Seventh Fleet
The Seventh Fleet is a numbered fleet of the United States Navy. It is headquartered at U.S. Fleet Activities Yokosuka, in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. 9th Marine Regiment
The 9th Marine Regiment was an infantry regiment of the United States Marine Corps. Formed during World War II, it served until 1994, when it was deactivated during the post Cold War drawdown. Battalions of the Ninth Marine Regiment, but not the regiment itself, were reactivated from 2007 to 2014 as part of the Marine Corps' growth during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The 3rd Marine Division is a division of the United States Marine Corps based at Camp Courtney, Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler in Okinawa, Japan. Camp Pendleton
Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton is the major West Coast base of the United States Marine Corps and is one of the largest Marine Corps bases in the United States. It is on the Southern California coast in San Diego County and is bordered by Oceanside to the south, San Clemente and Orange County to the north, Riverside County to the northeast, and Fallbrook to the east.
