Edward George Ryan
Edward George Ryan (November 13, 1810October 19, 1880) was an Irish Americans, Irish American Immigration to the United States, immigrant, lawyer, and Wisconsin pioneer. He was the 5th chief justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Early life and career Born in County Meath, Ireland, Ryan immigrated to New York City in 1830. In 1836, Ryan became a Citizenship of the United States, United States citizen and was admitted to the New York State Bar Association, New York bar. He then moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he married his first wife, Mary Graham. In Chicago, Ryan practiced law, edited a newspaper, and worked as a city attorney. In 1842, he moved to Racine, Wisconsin, Racine, in the Wisconsin Territory, and continued his law practice. Ryan was elected to the first Wisconsin Constitutional Convention in 1846, though the constitution produced by that convention was rejected by Wisconsin voters. Sir Edward Ryan PC FRS (28 August 1793 – 22 August 1875) was an English lawyer, judge, reformer of the British Civil Service and patron of science. He served as Chief Justice of Bengal from 1833–43. Early life Ryan was the second son of William Ryan. He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge in 1814 and while at Cambridge, he became friends with John Herschel, Charles Babbage, and George Peacock. Ryan took his MA in 1817 and was called to the bar by Lincoln's Inn in the same year. The Fighting Sullivans
''The Fighting Sullivans'', originally released as ''The Sullivans'', is a 1944 American biographical war film directed by Lloyd Bacon and written by Edward Doherty, Mary C. McCall Jr., and Jules Schermer. It was nominated for a now-discontinued Academy Award for Best Story. The story retells, with some poetic license, the lives of five Irish-American Sullivan brothers, who grew up in Iowa during the days of the Great Depression and served together in the United States Navy during World War II. Plot The Irish-American Catholic Sullivan brothers are introduced through a progression of baptisms: George Thomas in 1914, Francis "Frank" Henry in 1916, Joseph "Joe" Eugene in 1918, Madison "Matt" Abel in 1919, and Albert "Al" Leo in 1922 in their hometown of Waterloo, Iowa. Edward Ryan (Red Cross)
Edward W. Ryan (December 14, 1883 – September 18, 1923) was an American physician and Red Cross official, who devoted most of his life to combating epidemics worldwide. Ryan joined the Red Cross in 1913 to help soldiers and civilians wounded during the Mexican Revolution. There, in Mexico, he was imprisoned and sentenced to death, but was eventually released. He then continued his work for Red Cross in Europe. While heading the American Red Cross mission in Belgrade in 1914–1916, he successfully fought an outbreak of typhus that killed thousands. He later helped containing similar epidemics in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia in 1919–1922, and was awarded the Cross of Liberty in Estonia in 1920. Edward Ryan nicknamed "Mo" was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1920s. He played for University in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Playing career Ryan made his first grade debut for University against Newtown in Round 2 1922 at the Sydney Cricket Ground with University winning 11–8. Ryan went on to play 10 games as University finished second last on the table. In 1923 and 1924, University finished last on the table claiming the wooden spoon. Ryan finished as top point scorer for the club in 1924. In 1926, University surprised everyone in the competition by going from easy beats to being grand finalists. Edward Francis Ryan (March 10, 1879 – November 3, 1956) was an American prelate of the Catholic Church. He served as bishop of the Diocese of Burlington in Vermont from 1945 until his death in 1956. Biography Early life Edward Ryan was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Simon Joseph and Mary (née Breen) Ryan. After graduating from Ingalls Grammar School in Lynn, he attended Lynn Classical High School and Boston College. He furthered his studies at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. Priesthood Ryan was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Boston by Archbishop Giuseppe Ceppetelli on August 10, 1905.
