Edward Raymond Neaher
Edward Raymond Neaher (May 2, 1912 – April 19, 1994) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Neaher was nominated by President Richard M. Nixon on June 14, 1971, to a seat vacated by Joseph C. Zavatt. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on July 22, 1971, and received commission the same day. Assumed senior status on May 28, 1982. Neaher's service was terminated on April 19, 1994, due to death. Education and career Born in Brooklyn, New York, Neaher received an Artium Baccalaureus degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1937 and a Bachelor of Laws from Fordham University School of Law in 1943. He was a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1943 to 1945. He was in private practice of law in New York City from 1945 to 1969. Senior Status
Senior status is a form of semi-retirement for United States federal judges. To qualify, a judge in the Federal judiciary of the United States, federal court system must be at least 65 years old, and the sum of the judge's age and years of service as a federal judge must be at least 80 years. As long as senior judges carry at least a 25 percent caseload or meet other criteria for activity, they remain entitled to maintain a staffed office and chambers, including a secretary and their normal complement of law clerks, and they continue to receive annual cost-of-living increases. Senior judges vacate their seats on the bench, and the President of the United States, president may appoint new full-time judges to fill those seats. Some U.S. states have similar systems for senior judges. Richard Milhous Nixon (January 9, 1913April 22, 1994) was the 37th president of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as a representative and senator from California and was the 36th vice president from 1953 to 1961 under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. His five years in the White House saw reduction of U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War, détente with the Soviet Union and China, the first manned Moon landings, and the establishment of the Environmental Protection Agency and Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
