Edward R. Kirkland
Edward Romph Kirkland (March 16, 1923 – November 26, 2012) was an American Lawyer, attorney and politician. He served as a Democratic Party (United States), Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1951 to 1953. Kirkland was born in Coral Gables, Florida, the son of Ruby and George Kirkland. Kirkland served as a flight instructor and fighter pilot for the United States Army Air Force during World War II. In March 1945 Kirkland was shot down over Germany and captured by an enemy patrol, but managed to escape and return to his unit. After the war Kirkland attended the University of Miami and Stetson University, where he earned his law degree. In 1951, he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives. After one term, he left office in 1953. He returned to his practice as a criminal defence lawyer, which included successfully arguing a case before the Supreme Court of the United States, Supreme Court in 1968. Stetson is a brand of hat manufactured by the John B. Stetson Company. "Stetson" is also used as a generic trademark to refer to any campaign hat, in particular, in Scouting. John B. Stetson gained inspiration for his most famous hats when he headed west from his native New Jersey for health reasons. On his return east in 1865, he founded the John B. The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) is the highest court in the federal judiciary of the United States. It has ultimate appellate jurisdiction over all U.S. federal court cases, and over state court cases that involve a point of federal law. It also has original jurisdiction over a narrow range of cases, specifically "all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and those in which a State shall be Party."
