Rear Admiral Edward L. Anderson is an active duty United States Navy officer and career submariner who has been serving as Commander, Undersea Warfare since June 2019. Life and career Anderson is a native of Glendora, California, and is a 1990 graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering. He also has as a Master of Business Administration with honors from Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and is a graduate of the Aspen Institute seminar on Global Leadership. Anderson's sea tours include division officer, USS Newport News (SSN 750); strategic weapons officer, USS Ohio (SSBN 726) (Blue); and executive officer, USS Jefferson City (SSN 759). The United States Naval Academy (USNA) is an undergraduate college in Annapolis, Maryland with the mission of educating and commissioning officers for the United States Navy and Marine Corps. Allied Naval Forces Southern Europe (NAVSOUTH) was a Component Command in NATO's Allied Forces Southern Europe (AFSOUTH). Between 1951 and 1953, after the establishment of AFSOUTH, Commander-in-Chief Allied Forces Southern Europe, initially Admiral Robert Carney of the United States, also held the title of Commander, Allied Naval Forces Southern Europe. With the creation of Allied Forces Mediterranean in 1953, a British-led major NATO Subordinate Command that was responsible for maritime operations in the southern region the command and title was disestablished. USS ''Ohio'' (SSBN-726/SSGN-726), the lead boat of her class of nuclear-powered fleet ballistic missile submarines (SSBN), is the fourth vessel of the United States Navy to be named for the U.S. state of Ohio. The contract to build her was awarded to Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in Newport News, Virginia on 19 April 1982 and her keel was laid down on 3 March 1984.
