Edward F. McGrady
Edward Francis McGrady (January 22, 1873 – July 17, 1960) was an American labor leader and politician. A member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives during the first decade of the 20th century, McGrady is best remembered as a vice president of the American Federation of Labor and as first assistant secretary of labor during the administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Biography Early years Edward Francis McGrady was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on January 22, 1873. McGrady graduated from the English High School of Boston. In 1894, after a brief stint in banking, he began his career as a newspaper pressman. He was a member of Web Pressmen's Union No. 3, and served as president of the Boston Central Labor Union, Massachusetts State Federation of Labor, and Newspaper Printing Pressmen's. The ''Sandusky Register'' is a daily newspaper serving Sandusky, Ohio, as well as nearby Port Clinton and the Lake Erie Islands (collectively known regionally as Vacationland). History The ''Sandusky Register'' has been in production since 1822, originally known as the ''Sandusky Clarion''. Published in a building at the corner of Columbus Avenue and East Water Street, the ''Clarion'' became a daily newspaper on April 24, 1848. The ''Clarion'' office burned down in January 1852, destroying almost all files. Newton is a city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. It is approximately west of downtown Boston. Newton resembles a patchwork of thirteen villages, without a city center. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, the population of Newton was 88,923. History Newton was settled in 1630 as part of "the newe towne", which was renamed Cambridge in 1638. Roxbury minister John Eliot persuaded the Native American people of Nonantum, a sub-tribe of the Massachusett led by a sachem named Waban, to relocate to Natick in 1651, fearing that they would be exploited by colonists.
