Edward D. MacArthur
Edward Donald MacArthur (February 7, 1920 – June 29, 1986) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Kings West in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1960 to 1963. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party. MacArthur was born in 1920 at Pictou, Nova Scotia. He was educated at Dalhousie University, and was a physician by career. MacArthur entered provincial politics in the 1960 election, winning the Kings West riding by 512 votes. A nova (plural novae or novas) is a transient astronomical event that causes the sudden appearance of a bright, apparently "new" star (hence the name "nova", which is Latin for "new") that slowly fades over weeks or months. The Nova Scotia Liberal Party is a centrist provincial political party in Nova Scotia, Canada and the provincial section of the Liberal Party of Canada. The party currently forms the Official Opposition in Nova Scotia, under the leadership of Zach Churchill. The party was in power most recently from the 2013 election until the 2021 election. Origins The party is descended from the pre-Confederation Reformers in Nova Scotia who coalesced around Joseph Howe demanding the institution of responsible government. The Liberals (Reformers) formed several governments in the colony between 1848 and 1867. The party split during the debate on Confederation, with Howe and most other Liberals forming an Anti-Confederation Party, while supporters of confederation joined Tory Charles Tupper's Confederation Party. Paul Kinsman
Paul Eric Kinsman (March 5, 1931 – May 11, 2014), was a Canadian physician and politician in the province of Nova Scotia. He served in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly as a MLA for the constituencies of West Kings (1963–1967) and Kings South (1984). He was also Mayor of Wolfville, Nova Scotia from 1974 to 1976. Kinsman was born in Berwick, Nova Scotia. He attended Acadia University (Horton Academy), Nova Scotia Normal College and Dalhousie University and held Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery degrees from the latter. He also later obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Acadia University in 1972. After a brief teaching career, he practiced as a family physician first in Aylesford, Nova Scotia, and later in Wolfville until his retirement in 2006.
