Edward Cooper (congressman)
Edward Cooper (February 26, 1873 – March 1, 1928) was a lawyer and Republican politician who represented West Virginia in the United States House of Representatives during the 64th and 65th United States Congresses from 1915 to 1919. Cooper was born in Trevorton, Pennsylvania. He moved with his parents to Fayette County, West Virginia in 1875 where he attended public and private schools. He graduated from Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Virginia in 1892, and subsequently from the law department of the same university. He was admitted to the bar in 1894 and practiced law for three years in Bramwell, West Virginia where he was also a member of the town council for eight years. On the death of his father, Cooper abandoned the practice of law and engaged in the development of coal properties in West Virginia. The Republican National Convention (RNC) is a series of presidential nominating conventions held every four years since 1856 by the United States Republican Party. They are administered by the Republican National Committee. The goal of the Republican National Convention is to officially nominate and confirm a candidate for president and vice president, adopt a comprehensive party platform and unify the party, as well as publicize and launch the fall campaign. The United States Congress is the legislature of the federal government of the United States. It is bicameral, composed of a lower body, the House of Representatives, and an upper body, the Senate. Wells Goodykoontz (June 3, 1872 – March 2, 1944) was a Republican politician from the U.S. state of West Virginia who served in the West Virginia Legislature representing Mingo County. He was President of the West Virginia Senate from 1917 to 1919, and a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from the now-defunct 5th congressional district of West Virginia. He served during the 66th and 67th United States Congresses. Goodykoontz was born near Newbern, Virginia in Pulaski County on June 3, 1872. He was educated under private tutors and attended Oxford Academy at Floyd, Virginia and Washington and Lee University School of Law. He was admitted to the bar in 1893 and began practicing law at Williamson, West Virginia in 1894. He also worked in banking.
