Edward Aylmer (cricketer)
Edward Arthur Aylmer (20 March 1892 – 30 October 1974) was an English first-class cricketer and Royal Navy officer. He served in the Royal Navy from 1911–1945, seeing action in both the First World War and the Second World War. Reaching the rank of captain, he commanded several ships and establishments during his career. He also played first-class cricket for the Royal Navy Cricket Club. Life and naval career Alymer was born at Falmouth to Frederick Arthur Aylmer and his wife, Constance Isabella Grenfell. He entered the Royal Navy Training Establishment in January 1905, graduating in January 1911 when he was posted to as a midshipman. Having been made an acting sub-lieutenant in September 1912, he was promoted to the full rank in May 1913. He served with the Royal Navy during the First World War, with promotion to the rank of lieutenant in December 1914. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross in June 1917. Falmouth ( ; kw, Aberfala) is a town, civil parish and port on the River Fal on the south coast of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It has a total resident population of 21,797 (2011 census). Cambridge University Cricket Club
Cambridge University Cricket Club, first recorded in 1817, is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. Depending on the circumstances of each individual match, the club has always been recognised as holding first-class status. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket. With some 1,200 members, home matches are played at Fenner's. The club has three men's teams (Blues, Crusaders and the Colleges XI) and one women's team which altogether play nearly 100 days of cricket each season. The Royal Order of George I ( el, Βασιλικόν Τάγμα Γεωργίου Α') is a Greek order instituted by King Constantine I in 1915. Since the monarchy's abolition in 1973, it has been considered a dynastic order of the former Greek royal family. History The order was founded in 1915 by King Constantine I in honor of his father, George I. It was only the second Greek order to be created after the Order of the Redeemer in 1833, and remained the second senior award of the Greek state for the duration of its existence. The order was closely associated with the Greek monarchy, and was hence abolished with the establishment of the Second Hellenic Republic in 1924, to be replaced with the Order of the Phoenix. The order was restored along with the monarchy in 1935, and continued to be awarded until the final abolition of the monarchy in 1973. To be mentioned in dispatches (or despatches, MiD) describes a member of the armed forces whose name appears in an official report written by a superior officer and sent to the high command, in which their gallant or meritorious action in the face of the enemy is described. The 1st Submarine Flotilla ( sv, Första ubåtsflottiljen, 1. ubflj) is a unit of the Swedish Fleet which has operated in various forms since 1904. Its unit staff is located at Karlskrona naval base, Blekinge in Karlskrona Garrison. History The embryo of the 1st Submarine Flotilla was formed in 1904, when the Swedish Navy was supplied with its first submarine, ''Hajen'', and the submarine force was formed.
