Edward Armitage (cricketer)
Edward Leathley Armitage (26 April 1891 – 24 November 1957) was an Irish-born English cricketer, the son of John Leathley Armitage (1857–1938) and his wife Annie Jessie, née Nicholas. A right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler, he played first-class cricket for several teams between 1919 and 1933. Career Armitage made his first-class debut in August 1919, for Hampshire in a County Championship match against Essex, playing three more County Championship matches that month. He played just once in 1920, against Leicestershire. Leicestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Leicestershire. It has also been representative of the county of Rutland. The club's limited overs team is called the Leicestershire Foxes. Founded in 1879, the club had minor county status until 1894 when it was promoted to first-class status pending its entry into the County Championship in 1895. The Federated Malay States cricket team was a team that represented the Federated Malay States in international cricket matches between 1905 and 1940. Cricket has been played in Peninsular Malaysia since the 1880s, and the Federated Malay States usually combined with the Straits Settlements cricket team to form the Malaya cricket team. The Straits Settlements cricket team was the team that represented the Straits Settlements in international cricket matches between 1890 and 1940. History Between 1890 and 1909, the Straits Settlements played regular Interport matches against Hong Kong, Ceylon and Shanghai. Royal Navy Cricket Club
The Royal Navy Cricket Club is a cricket team representing the British Royal Navy and based at the United Services Recreation Ground, Portsmouth, Hampshire. The club was formed in 1863, although cricket is recorded as having been played by seamen since at least the 17th century. Between 1912 and 1929 some of the Navy's matches had first-class status, particularly those against other branches of the services, although they also played Cambridge University, MCC, and - in 1927 - the touring New Zealanders. Additionally, in both 1910 and 1911 a combined Army and Navy side played a first-class fixture against a combined Oxford and Cambridge side.
