Luton
Luton () is a town and unitary authority with borough status, in Bedfordshire, England. At the 2011 census, the Luton built-up area subdivision had a population of 211,228 and its built-up area, including the adjacent towns of Dunstable and Houghton Regis, had a population of 258,018. It is the most populous town in the county, from the County Towns of Hertford, from Bedford and from London. The town is situated on the River Lea, about north-north-west of London. The town's foundation dates to the sixth century as a Saxon outpost on the River Lea, from which Luton derives its name. Luton is recorded in the Domesday Book as ''Loitone'' and ''Lintone'' and one of the largest churches in Bedfordshire, St Mary's Church, was built in the 12th century. Lealands High School
Lealands High School, formerly Sundon Park Comprehensive School, is a foundation school for 11 to 16 year olds located in Sundon Park, Luton. The school attracts students from Sundon Park and across Luton and Bedfordshire. It was judged good with outstanding behaviour and safety by Ofsted in 2013 and confirmed to continue being a good school overall in March 2017 following a short inspection by Ofsted. In 2014 the school was placed in the top 100 most improved secondary schools for GCSE results including English and maths over a sustained period. Main feeder schools include Sundon Park Juniors School, Leagrave Primary and Pirton Hill, although students join Lealands from primary schools across Luton and the surrounding areas. Luton Sixth Form College
Luton Sixth Form College is a sixth form college in the Barnfield area of Luton, Bedfordshire, England. History In 1904 Luton Council acquired the Modern School, which was a mixed-sex secondary school. This school moved into new buildings in ''Park Square'' in 1908 (now the site of the University of Bedfordshire). By 1919 the school had grown significantly and further expansion was needed. A new building was constructed at ''Alexandra Avenue'' for the girls (now the site of Denbigh High School). This school was named Luton High School for Girls; the boys continued at the old site in ''Park Square''. Stopsley High School is a co-educational secondary school located in the Stopsley area of Luton, Bedfordshire, England. History In September 2002 Stopsley High became a designated specialist sports college. It was re-designated in 2007 with Music nominated as its second subject. As a part of Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme the school's capacity was expanded from 990 to 1350. Previously a foundation school administered by Luton Borough Council, in September 2021 Stopsley High School converted to academy status. It is now sponsored by the Middlesex Learning Trust. Queen Elizabeth School (formerly Ashcroft High School) is a coeducational secondary school located in the Crawley Green area of Luton in the English county of Bedfordshire. Lea Manor High School is a coeducational secondary school located in Luton, Bedfordshire, England. History Lea Manor High School opened in 1974. It became a specialised Performing Arts college in 2007. Lea Manor High School is underwent building and refurbishing work under the government's Building Schools for the Future Programme (BSF) and was one of the first schools in Luton to be transformed. The building firm Wates Group won the contract to rebuild or remodel every secondary school in Luton. Phase one of the remodelling was completed and opened to students in Autumn 2009.
