Eduardo Monteiro
Eduardo Henrique Soares Monteiro (born Rio de Janeiro, 1966) is a concert pianist, university professor and piano teacher. Musical education Graduating with a BA and an MA from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, he earned a Doctorate at the Sorbonne in 2000 on the subject of the chamber music of Brazilian composer Henrique Oswald. Initial piano teachers included Esther Naiberger and Myrian Dauelsberg, and he received many prizes in Brazil. He continued his studies at the International Piano Academy Lake Como and finally at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, with Wha-Kyung Byun. Prizes Monteiro gained European recognition at the Cologne International Piano Competition in 1989, winning first prize and the prize for a performance of a Beethoven piano concerto. He was a prize-winner at the International Piano Competition in Dublin (1991) and at the Paloma O'Shea International Piano Competition in Santander (1992). Clara Haskil International Piano Competition
The Clara Haskil Piano Competition (French: Concours international de piano Clara Haskil) was founded in 1963 in order to honour and perpetuate the memory the Romanian-Swiss pianist Clara Haskil. The competition is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions since 1976. It takes place every two years in Vevey where Clara Haskil resided from 1942 until her death in Brussels in 1960. A street in Vevey bears her name. José Antônio Rezende de Almeida Prado or Almeida Prado (February 8, 1943 – November 21, 2010) was an important Brazilian composer of classical music and a pianist. On Almeida Prado's death, his personal friend, conductor João Carlos Martins stated that Prado had possibly been the most important Brazilian composer ever. Prado wrote over 400 compositions and won various prizes for his work. He was born in Santos, São Paulo in 1943. He died in São Paulo in 2010, having lived there for the latter part of his life. Training In Brazil, Almeida Prado studied with Dinorá de Carvalho (piano), Osvaldo Lacerda ( harmony) and Camargo Guarnieri (composition). The Piano Quintet in C major, Op. 18, by Henrique Oswald was finished in 1895. Like most of the piano quintets after the Schumann's, it is scored for piano, 2 violins, viola and cello. A typical performance takes 27–31 minutes. History The quintet was composed by Oswald during the last decade of his Italian period. He has already composed the Piano Quartet No. 1, Op. 5 (1888), the Piano Trio in G minor, Op. 9 (1889) and two string quartets, thus proving to be a confident composer of chamber music. However, none of these compositions were printed during his lifetime. The quintet is dedicated to ''Signora Karl Hillebrand'', that is, , widow of Karl Hillebrand, a friend of Hans von Bülow, Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt. The piano is a stringed keyboard instrument in which the strings are struck by wooden hammers that are coated with a softer material (modern hammers are covered with dense wool felt; some early pianos used leather).
