Edmée de La Rochefoucauld (1896-1991) was a French activist for women’s voting rights and a writer, sometimes using the pseudonym Gilbert Mauge. Early life Edmée Frisch de Fels was born in Paris, France on April 28, 1895, the daughter of Edmund, Comte de Fels, director of the ''Revue de Paris'', and Comtesse de Fels, née Famille Lebaudy, Jeanne Lebaudy, who was a founder of the Union Nationale pour le Vote des Femmes (UNVF). On December 27, 1917 she married Jean, Duc de La Rochefoucauld, heir to La Rochefoucauld ducal title. They had two sons and two daughters."La Rochefoucauld, Edmée, Duchesse de (1895–1991)." Duchesse (Duchesse satin) was a soft, heavy, and glossy satin cloth made in France. Weave Duchesse was produced with a satin weave with fine silk threads using a higher number of threads per square inch in the warp with at least seven floating yarns. The actual material was silk only but increasingly made with Synthetic fiber, synthetic fibers also. Uses Duchesse satin is valued for its richness and heavy weight. It is used mainly for Wedding dress, bridal gowns. The wedding dress of Sarah Ferguson, dress worn by Sarah Ferguson for her wedding to Prince Andrew, Duke of York on 23 July 1986 at Westminster Abbey, was made from ivory duchesse satin and featured heavy beading. The gown worn by Queen Silvia of Sweden for her wedding of Carl XVI Gustaf and Silvia Sommerlath, marriage with Carl XVI Gustaf in 1976 was also made of duchesse satin. References
