Edmund Ward (screenwriter)
Edmund Ward (23 February 1928 – 12 July 1993) was a British novelist and screenwriter. Before he was 20 he had read every book in the library in his determination to “master all aspects of the written word” To further this aim he graduated from the London School of Printing and Graphic Arts with diplomas in Print Production and Typography as well as with a diploma in Scandinavian Language and Literature from a Swedish Hogskola. His first novel – Summer in Retreat – won the Author's Club Award in 1957 He also wrote ''The Gravy Train'' (1958) and ''The Private Tightrope'' (1960). A novelist is an author or writer of novels, though often novelists also write in other genres of both fiction and non-fiction. Kings And Desperate Men
''Kings and Desperate Men'' is a 1981 Canadian hostage drama film directed, co-written and produced by Alexis Kanner. The film stars Patrick McGoohan as radio talk show host John Kingsley, Margaret Trudeau as his wife Elizabeth, and Kanner with Andrea Marcovicci as terrorists. The story is set within one day during Christmas Eve. The movie was made on a budget of 1.2 million and was filmed in Montreal. Its title is derived from a line in John Donne's poem "Death Be Not Proud (poem), Death Be Not Proud" (Holy Sonnet X): "Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men." Film director Kanner later took legal action against the film producers of ''Die Hard'' in the late 1980s, alleging the producers stole the idea for ''Die Hard'' from his film ''Kings and Desperate Men''. ''The Plane Makers'' is a British television series created by Wilfred Greatorex and produced by Rex Firkin. ATV made three series for ITV between 1963 and 1965. It was succeeded by ''The Power Game'', which ran for an additional three series from 1965 to 1969. Firkin continued as producer for the first two series, and David Reid took over for series 3. The Main Chance
''The Main Chance'' is a British television series first aired on ITV in four series between 1969 and 1975. It is a drama series that depicts the sudden transformation in the life of a solicitor, David Main (played by John Stride), after he moves from London to Leeds. It was created by Edmund Ward and John Malcolm; the latter was a pseudonym for John Batt who was a practising solicitor. Batt also composed the theme music. Episodes In all, 45 episodes were aired, each around 45 to 50 minutes long and divided into three parts. The first series, shown in 1969, was in black and white.
