Edmund Hoyle Vestey
Edmund Vestey (19 June 1932 – 23 November 2007) was a member of the Vestey family that made its fortune in the meat trade, their activities ranging from retail outlets, shipping lines to processing companies in South America and cattle stations in Australia. He was the third generation to head the family business, now Vestey Holdings, and was thought to have a personal wealth of £700 million. Vestey was the grandson of Sir Edmund Vestey who founded the Union Cold Storage Company in Liverpool in 1897 with his brother, Sir William (later Baron) Vestey, which later became a family business with 23,000 employees and 250,000 head of cattle on several continents, thought to have been worth nearly £2 billion. City Of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders) Officers
The City of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders) was a yeomanry regiment of the British Territorial Army, formed in 1901 from veterans of the Second Boer War. In World War I it served dismounted in the Gallipoli Campaign but reverted to the mounted role in the Senussi campaign, at Salonika and in Palestine. It ended the war as a machine gun unit on the Western Front. In the interwar years it was reduced to a battery in a composite Royal Horse Artillery unit in London, but in the period of rearmament before World War II it was expanded into a full regiment of light anti-aircraft artillery. It served in this role during The Blitz and later in the Tunisian and Italian campaigns. Postwar it became an armoured regiment. 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays) Officers
The 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays) was a cavalry regiment of the British Army. It was first raised in 1685 by the Earl of Peterborough as the Earl of Peterborough's Regiment of Horse by merging four existing troops of horse. Renamed several times, it was designated the Queen's Regiment of Dragoon Guards in 1746 as it evolved into a dragoon unit. (Dragoons described a force of highly mobile mounted infantry equipped with lighter, faster horses and carrying firearms) and later named the 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays) in 1767 to reflect the custom of its soldiers riding only bay horses. The regiment served as horse cavalry until 1937, when it was mechanised with light tanks. The regiment became part of the Royal Armoured Corps in 1939. Samuel George Armstrong Vestey, 3rd Baron Vestey, (19 March 1941 – 4 February 2021) was a British peer, landowner, and businessman. He served as Master of the Horse to Queen Elizabeth II from 1999 to 2018. Lord Vestey was part of the family dynasty that founded and still runs the Vestey Holdings multinational corporation. Early life and education Vestey was born on 19 March 1941 as the son of Captain The Hon. There have been two baronetcies created for members of the Vestey family, both in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. Both creations are extant as of 2010. The Vestey Baronetcy, of Bessemer House, was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 21 June 1913 for William Vestey. In 1921 he was raised to the peerage as Baron Vestey (see this title for more information). The Vestey Baronetcy, of Shirley in the County of Surrey, was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 27 June 1921 for Edmund Vestey.
