Edmonton-Riverview
Edmonton Riverview is a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada. The district is mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting. Created in the 1997 boundary redistribution, the district includes re-distributed areas of the Edmonton-Glenora, Edmonton-Strathcona, and Edmonton-Whitemud. Neighborhoods in this riding include: Windsor Park, Belgravia, Parkallen, Crestwood, Laurier Heights & Parkview. Edmonton-Riverview remains one of the more affluent ridings in Edmonton, featuring some of the city's most expensive real estate. The riding is currently represented by New Democrat Lori Sigurdson. Lori Sigurdson
Lori Dawn Sigurdson (born January 31, 1961 in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a Canadian politician who was elected in the 2015 Alberta general election to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta representing the electoral district of Edmonton-Riverview. She served as Minister of Advanced Education and Minister of Labour from May 24, 2015 to February 2, 2016 and as Minister of Seniors and housing until March 20, 2019. MLA Sigurdson was re-elected on April 16, 2019. She is currently the Official Opposition Critic for Seniors and Housing. Personal life Sigurdson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Alberta as well as Bachelor and Masters of Social Work degrees from the University of Calgary. Steve Young (Alberta Politician)
Steven Keith Young (born May 17, 1969) is a Canadian politician who served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta representing the electoral district of Edmonton-Riverview from 2012 until his defeat in 2015. He was first elected April 23, 2012, and subsequently appointed to the role of the Chief Government Whip. Early life Young was born in Calgary, Alberta and after moving to the Edmonton area grew up on an acreage south east of Sherwood Park in Strathcona County. Hockey was a strong interest and saw him play Major Junior Hockey in the Western Hockey League from 1986 to 1990. Edmonton-Strathcona is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canada. It shares the same name as the federal electoral district of Edmonton Strathcona. The boundaries of Edmonton-Strathcona include the neighbourhoods of Garneau, Strathcona, Queen Alexandra, Pleasantview, Allendale, Malmo Plains, Empire Park, Bonnie Doon and Idylwylde, and encompasses the historic district of Old Strathcona. Kevin Taft
Kevin Taft (born September 9, 1955) is an author, consultant, speaker, and former provincial politician in Alberta, Canada. Prior to his election, he worked in various public policy roles (1973-2000) in the Government of Alberta, private and non-profit sectors, in the areas of health, energy, and economic policy. From 1986 to 1991 he was CEO of the ExTerra Foundation, which conducted paleontological expeditions in China's Gobi Desert, Alberta's badlands, and the Canadian Arctic. He is the author of five books as well as several research studies and articles on political and economic issues in Alberta. In the mid-late 1990s Dr. Taft wrote two books critical of the ruling Progressive Conservatives. Edmonton Meadowlark was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting from 1971 to 2019. History The electoral district of Edmonton-Centre was created in the 1957 boundary redistribution that saw the ridings of Edmonton and Calgary broken up into single member electoral districts when the province reintroduced first past the post. Edmonton-Rutherford is a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada. The district is mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting. The district was created in the boundary redistribution of 1993 from the Edmonton-Whitemud riding in South Edmonton. The district is a swing riding and has regularly changed between Liberal and Progressive Conservative control. Edmonton-Glenora is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canada. It is located north of the North Saskatchewan River in Edmonton. The electoral district, as defined by the ''Electoral Divisions Act, 2003,'' encompasses an area that includes, in addition to the neighbourhood of Glenora, the neighbourhoods of Britannia Youngstown, Canora, Grovenor, High Park, Inglewood, Mayfield, McQueen, North Glenora, Westmount and Woodcroft as well. Edmonton-Whitemud
Edmonton-Whitemud is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canada. In 1989, its constituents unseated the Premier of the day, Donald Getty, by voting for Liberal candidate Percy Wickman. The district was represented by Dave Hancock who was in his fourth term as the Member of the Legislative Assembly. Hancock has also served as Minister of Justice twice, Attorney General and prior to that as Minister of Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs. Edmonton-McClung is a provincial electoral district in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The district was created in 1993 and is named after Nellie McClung. The current MLA is Lorne Dach of the NDP, who was first elected in 2015.
