Editora Nacional Quimantú
Editora Nacional Quimantú was a Chilean publishing house created in 1971 by Salvador Allende's Unidad Popular government. It was founded under the premise of offering various literary works and a view of Chilean culture not covered by the "official bourgeois tradition" by then, at an accessible price for the country's working class. ''Quimantú'' is mapuche for "sun of knowledge". Now refounded as Editorial Quimantú, it is in charge of "a group of people that decided that dreams aren't of much use if we don't try to make them a reality, belonging to social, cultural and political organizations in various sectors of Santiago de Chile." Camilo Henríquez
Friar José Camilo Henríquez González (; July 29, 1769 in Valdivia, Chile – March 16, 1825 in Santiago de Chile) was a priest, author, politician, and is considered an intellectual antecedent to and founding father of the Republic of Chile for his passionate leadership and influential writings. He was also one of the most important early South American newspaper writers and wrote several essays, most notably the '' Proclama de Quirino Lemachez'', which promoted Chilean independence and liberty. Book Burnings In Chile
Book burnings in Chile were done by the Government Junta of Chile (1973), military junta led by dictator General Augusto Pinochet following the 1973 Chilean coup d'état. The military dictatorship burned the books they considered subversive, including leftist literature as well as other books that did not fit the junta's ideology, being part of a campaign to "extirpate the Marxism, Marxist cancer."Bosmajian, p.141 Following the coup, the military began raids to find potential opponents of the new regime, who were then held and some of them executed at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos, Estadio Nacional and other places.
