Edith Mayo
Edith P. Mayo (born March 18, 1940) is an American historian. She is curator emerita for political history at the National Museum of American History. Mayo is a subject matter expert on women's suffrage, specifically African American women's suffrage, and the first ladies of the United States. She has been featured on C-SPAN, CNN, ''The Morning Call'', the ''Los Angeles Times'', PBS, ''The Baltimore Sun'', and ''The Washington Post'' regarding her areas of focus. In 2020, she was named an honoree of the National Women's History Alliance. Early life and education Mayo earned her degree in American History from George Washington University. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Career Mayo was an adjunct professor at George Washington University, where she taught material culture as part of a co-branded program with the university and the Smithsonian Institution. The National Museum of American History: Kenneth E. Behring Center collects, preserves, and displays the heritage of the United States in the areas of social, political, cultural, scientific, and military history. Among the items on display is the original Star-Spangled Banner (flag), Star-Spangled Banner. Brookfield Place (previously named and still commonly referred to as the World Financial Center) is a shopping center and office building complex in the New York City borough of Manhattan. It is located in the Battery Park City neighborhood, across West Street from the World Trade Center, and overlooks the Hudson River. The complex is currently owned and managed by Brookfield Properties, a subsidiary of Brookfield Asset Management. History Designed by architect César Pelli, with Adamson Associates, the World Financial Center complex was built by Olympia and York from 1983 to 1988 on the landfill used to build Battery Park City. Fairfax County, officially the County of Fairfax, is a county in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
