Edison High School is a public high school located in Huntington Beach, California which first began operation in 1969. It is a part of the Huntington Beach Union High School District. Edison is a California Distinguished School. The graduation rate at Edison is 94%. Thirty-three percent of Edison graduates attend a four-year university and 61% attend community college or trade school. Twenty five total AP, Honors, and Accelerated level courses are offered at Edison. Edison is a largely sports-centered high school, with 31 CIF championships and 255 League championships. Eric Robert Filia (born July 6, 1992), formerly known as Eric Snyder, is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Guerreros de Oaxaca of the Mexican League. He played internationally for the United States national baseball team at the 2020 Olympics. Amateur career Filia graduated from Edison High School in Huntington Beach, California. As a freshman, he had a .500 batting average for the baseball team, tying a school record set by Jeff Kent, and set a school record for hits. He enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he played college baseball for the UCLA Bruins. Dale Thayer
Dale Scott Thayer (born December 17, 1980) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Tampa Bay Rays, New York Mets, and San Diego Padres. Playing career Draft Thayer was drafted out of high school by the Chicago Cubs in the 47th round of the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft, but did not sign. Thayer went undrafted out of Chico State in 2002, but was signed as a free agent by the San Diego Padres on September 25, 2002. San Diego Padres minor league system Thayer was used as a closer for the majority of his minor league career. Yevgeni Starikov, also known as Eugene Starikov (russian: Евгений Валерьевич Стариков; born November 17, 1988) is an American former professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder. Victoria "Tori" Peña (born 30 July 1987) is a pole vaulter with dual American and Irish citizenship who competes for Ireland in IAAF competition. Early life Peña was born in Los Alamitos, California. The "Why Mom Deserves a Diamond" contest is an American essay contest founded by Michael "Diamond Mike" Watson in Costa Mesa, California in 1993. The contest was established in honor of Watson's adoptive mother and the birth mother he had never known. In a limited number of words, children are asked to write essays explaining why their mother deserves a diamond. Hundreds of thousands of American children have participated, and dozens of children have won the grand prize of a diamond to give to their mothers (and other precious gems). The first winner was sophomore Margaret Ketchersid, from Edison High School in Huntington Beach, California. Donald Earl Hill (born November 12, 1960) is a former professional baseball player who played nine seasons for the Oakland Athletics, Chicago White Sox, California Angels, and Minnesota Twins of Major League Baseball. Donnie moved from Pomona to Huntington Beach when he was 13 years old.
