Edie Arlisa Brickell (born March 10, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter widely known for 1988's ''Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars'', the debut album by Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, which went to No. 4 on the ''Billboard'' albums chart. She is married to singer-songwriter Paul Simon. Early life Brickell was born in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, Texas to Larry Jean (Sellers) Linden and Paul Edward Brickell. She was raised with her older sister, Laura Strain. She attended Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, and later studied at Southern Methodist University until she joined a band and decided to focus on songwriting. ''Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars'' is the debut studio album by American alternative rock band Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, released on August 9, 1988 by Geffen Records. The album went 2× platinum in the United States. "What I Am" was the lead single and big hit from the album, reaching #7 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The follow-up single, "Circle," was about strained relationships. Although described by author Brent Mann as "the perfect follow up single to 'What I Am'" and which "had 'smash' written all over it," it stalled at #48 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and fared slightly better on the ''Billboard'' Mainstream Rock chart, reaching #32. "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall" is a song written by American musician and Nobel Laureate Bob Dylan in the summer of 1962 and recorded later that year for his second album, ''The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan'' (1963). Its lyrical structure is modeled after the question and answer form of traditional ballads such as "Lord Randall". The song is characterized by symbolist imagery in the style of Arthur Rimbaud, communicating suffering, pollution, and warfare. Rocket is an album by Edie Brickell & New Bohemians. The album was released on October 12, 2018, and is their first album since 2006's ''Stranger Things.'' The band wrote the songs on the album during the rehearsals of their 2017 La Rondalla Benefit Concert. After that they decided to record them, and the band recorded seven songs in eight days. The lead singer of the band, Edie Brickell, says that the album doesn't have too much structure, and often bounces between genres. Brickell also hopes that this album is a new beginning for the band and will bring them back on the radar. Singles "What Makes You Happy" was released as the first single on September 13, 2018 along with a music video to accompany it. The second single, "Tell Me" was released on September 27, 2018. ''Ghost of a Dog'' is the second album by American alternative rock band Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, released in 1990. In the printed lyrics that accompany the album, each song has a word with a single letter missing. In order, they spell out "ghost of a dog." The album sold about 500,000 copies. After a tour in support of the album, the band decided to take an indefinite hiatus. Production The album was produced by Tony Berg. Unlike on the debut, where many tracks used session musicians, the New Bohemians play throughout ''Ghost of a Dog''.
