Edicions de 1984 is an independent publishing house in Catalonia specialized in up-market literature which was founded in 1984 by Josep Cots as an homage to George Orwell. Josep Cots, the current director and editor-in-chief, and his team have been building up the company’s catalogue which includes some of the most important authors of all times. The catalogue, which has around 450 active titles, includes translations of all genres (novel, poetry, theatre and essay) and works by catalan authors. Edicions de 1984 publishes around twenty-five titles per year and it follows an author policy. George Orwell
Eric Arthur Blair (25 June 1903 – 21 January 1950), better known by his pen name George Orwell, was an English novelist, essayist, journalist, and critic. His work is characterised by lucid prose, social criticism, opposition to totalitarianism, and support of democratic socialism. Orwell produced literary criticism, poetry, fiction and polemical journalism. He is known for the allegorical novella ''Animal Farm'' (1945) and the dystopian novel ''Nineteen Eighty-Four'' (1949). Claudio Magris
Claudio Magris (born 10 April 1939) is an Italian scholar, translator and writer. He was a senator for Friuli-Venezia Giulia from 1994 to 1996. Life Magris graduated from the University of Turin, where he studied German studies, and has been a professor of modern German literature at the University of Trieste since 1978. He is an essayist and columnist for the Italian newspaper ''Corriere della Sera'' and for other European journals and newspapers. His numerous studies have helped to promote an awareness in Italy of Central European culture and of the literature of the Habsburg Myth, a concept which he coined in 1963. Magris is a member of several European academies and served as senator in the Italian Senate from 1994 to 1996. George Saunders
George Saunders (born December 2, 1958) is an American writer of short stories, essays, novellas, children's books, and novels. His writing has appeared in ''The New Yorker'', '' Harper's'', ''McSweeney's'', and '' GQ''. He also contributed a weekly column, ''American Psyche'', to the weekend magazine of ''The Guardian'' between 2006 and 2008. Jennifer Egan is an American novelist and short-story writer. Egan's novel ''A Visit from the Goon Squad'' won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction. Dino Buzzati-Traverso (; 14 October 1906 – 28 January 1972) was an Italian novelist, short story writer, painter and poet, as well as a journalist for '' Corriere della Sera''. Joseph Berger (born January 17, 1945, in Lysva, Soviet Union) is an American journalist, author, and speaker. He was a staff reporter and editor for ''The New York Times'' from 1984 to 2014 and has authored four books. William Somerset Maugham ( ; 25 January 1874 – 16 December 1965) was an English writer, known for his plays, novels and short stories. Born in Paris, where he spent his first ten years, Maugham was schooled in England and went to a German university. He became a medical student in London and qualified as a physician in 1897. He never practised medicine, and became a full-time writer.
