Edi Martini
Eduard "Edi" Martini (born 2 January 1975) is an Albanian football manager and former player, who is the current head coach of Teuta in the Kategoria Superiore. Playing career Club During his playing career, Martini represented mostly Vllaznia Shkodër but also played abroad with Slovenian Vevce, Austrian SAK Klagenfurt and Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. He fled war-torn Albania for Germany in 1997 after a match in Spain along with teammate Adrian Dashi. International Martini made his international debut for Albania on 14 May 1994 during the 5–1 away defeat to Macedonia, appearing as a first-half substitute for Gentian Stojku. A year later, on 16 August 1995, he made his second appearance in a 2–1 upset to Malta, playing full-90 minutes. Shkodër
Shkodër ( , ; sq-definite, Shkodra) is the fifth-most-populous city of the Republic of Albania and the seat of Shkodër County and Shkodër Municipality. Albanian Civil War
The Albanian Civil War in 1997 was sparked by pyramid scheme failures in Albania soon after its transition to a market economy. The government was toppled and more than 2,000 people were killed. Various other sources also describe the violence that ensued as a rebellion, or a rebellion that gradually escalated into a civil war. By January 1997, Albanian citizens, who had lost a total of $1.2 billion, took their protest to the streets. Beginning in February, thousands of citizens launched daily protests demanding reimbursement by the government, which they believed was profiting from the schemes. On 1 March, Prime Minister Aleksandër Meksi resigned and on 2 March, President Sali Berisha declared a state of emergency. 2010–11 Albanian Cup
2010–11 Albanian Cup () was the fifty-ninth season of Albania's annual cup competition. It began on 21 September 2010 with the First Preliminary Round. The winners of the competition qualified for the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League. Besa were the defending champions, having won their second Albanian Cup last season. The cup was won by KF Tirana. The rounds were played in a two-legged format similar to those of European competitions. If the aggregated score was tied after both games, the team with the higher number of away goals advanced. If the number of away goals was equal in both games, the match was decided by extra time and a penalty shootout, if necessary. Shkumbini Peqin
KF Shkumbini is an Albanian football club based in the city of Peqin. The club's home ground is the Shkumbini Stadium and they compete in the Kategoria e Dytë. History Football was first introduced to the city of Peqin in the early 1920s after an army officer from Shkodër brought along a ball with him. An amateur club was formed in 1924 by Adem Bedali and other local men who had begun playing football. In the club's infancy they played friendly games with teams from other cities in Albania, before the creation of the Albanian Football Association in 1930 who organised the first official football competitions in the country. Shkumbini's first trophy came in 1936 when they defeated Apolonia Fier to win the Kategoria e Dytë. KS Kastrioti
KS Kastrioti, also known as Kastrioti Krujë, is an Albanian football club based in the city of Krujë. The club's home ground is the Kastrioti Stadium which has a capacity of 8,000 spectators and they currently compete in the Kategoria Superiore. History Early history The club was founded in 1926 as the city of Krujë's main sports club. During a brief spell in 1949, the club was dissolved, but was quickly re-established under the name of the city, Krujë. Ylli Shehu
Ylli Shehu (born 13 March 1966) is an Albanian retired football player. Club career Shehu made his senior debut for Partizani against Naftëtari Qyteti Stalin in 1984 aged only 16 and he won two Albanian championships in 1987 and 1993 with them. He had been out injured for almost two years from 1990 only to regain fitness and win that second league title. After that he moved to Croatia and spent several seasons with HNK Šibenik, scoring 40 goals in the Croatian Prva HNL. He also played for Apollon Athens in the Greek Alpha Ethniki and had a season in Belgium with Cercle Brugge. International career He made his debut for Albania in a September 1988 friendly match away to Romania and earned a total of 10 caps, scoring 1 goal. Albanian Superliga
The Kategoria Superiore, officially known as Abissnet Superiore for sponsorship reasons, is a professional league for men's association football clubs. At the top of the Albanian football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. It is contested by 10 clubs, and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Kategoria e Parë. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 36 matches each (playing each team in the league four times, twice at home and twice away). The competition was founded in 1930 as the Albanian National Championship during the reign of King Zog, shortly after the creation of the Albanian Football Association. Since 1930, 45 clubs have competed in recognised competitions, while only nine clubs have won the title: Tirana (26), Dinamo Tirana (18), Partizani (16), Vllaznia (9), Skënderbeu (8), Elbasani (2), Teuta (2), Flamurtari (1), and Kukësi (1). Albanian Cup
The Albanian Cup ( sq, Kupa e Shqipërisë) is the main "knockout" competition in Albanian football. The competition started in 1939 as Kupa e Mbretit (English:"The King's Cup"). Just after a year the cup was suspended as the Second World War started. It started again in 1948 as "Kupa e Republikes" (English: "Republic Cup") and from 1991 as "Kupa e Shqipërisë" (Albanian Cup). Today it is the second most important competition in Albania after the Kategoria Superiore. The winners of the Cup automatically earn the right to participate in the 1st qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.
