Edendale Technical High School is a public school in South Africa. Overview Edendale Technical High school is situated on the east of Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal. The school is a mixed gender even though when it was initially opened to only cater for boys. In 1996 the school allowed girls to also enroll. Edendale Technical High school is the most performing school around Edendale area and most of the parents prefers to enroll their kids in the school. Edendale Technical High school offers technical subjects such as mechanical technology; woodwork and electrical technology. It also offers commercial subjects which includes economics and accounting. Edendale, South Africa
Edendale is a township in Msunduzi local municipality in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Edendale was established in 1851, when 100 black Christian families settled on the farm Welverdiend, about 10 km from Pietermaritzburg, and renamed it to its present name. The village was laid out under the guidance of James Allison, who had broken with the Wesleyan Missionary Society in 1851. Unlike most black urban areas, Edendale was developed under private land ownership from the beginning, a concept that was new to Africans in Natal. This Christian community abandoned traditional beliefs and practices, moving away from polygamy and introducing men to cultivation, previously the realm of women. Edendale retained its primarily Christian character into the 1920s, but by the 1940s people from rural areas began to pour in, leading to overcrowding and unsanitary conditions. Jeremiah Buti Zwelibanzi Shongwe (born 3 December 1948) is a South African jurist and former judge of the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa. Early life and education Born in Pretoria, Shongwe was educated at Edendale Technical High School in Pietermaritzburg. He obtained a B.Proc degree from University of Zululand in 1974 and was admitted as an attorney during 1979. Career Shongwe practised as an attorney for more than twenty years and during 2000 he acted as a judge for the first time, after which, from January 2001, he was permanently appointed at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria. In 2005, he was appointed the Deputy Judge President of the same Division and in 2009 he was appointed to the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa.
