Eddyville is a city in Mahaska, Monroe, and Wapello counties in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 970 at the time of the 2020 census. History ''Circa'' 1839, a Sauk village was established on this site following the end of the Black Hawk War. The village was referred to by the name of its chief, Chief Hard Fish, or Wish-e-co-ma-que. Eddy was permitted to open a trading post in Hard Fish's village. It was a place for trade with the Indians and for pioneers to provision and ford the Des Moines River. Eddyville is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of Lyon County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,554 at the 2010 census, up from 2,350 in 2000. The Kentucky State Penitentiary is located at Eddyville. The town is considered a tourist attraction because of its access to nearby Lake Barkley. History Eddyville, the seat of Lyon County, was settled around 1798 and named for the eddies in the nearby Cumberland River. It became the seat of Livingston County when the county was formed in 1799; then the seat of Caldwell County upon its formation in 1809; and finally the seat of Lyon County upon its establishment in 1854. Eddyville, Oregon
Eddyville is an unincorporated community in Lincoln County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. Eddyville's unofficial estimated population as of 2014 was about 400 to 500. Eddyville lies at the intersection of U.S. Route 20 and Oregon Route 180 east of Chitwood and at the confluence of Little Elk Creek and the Yaquina River. The community was named by and for Israel F. Eddy, who was postmaster here in 1888. The post office, originally established in 1868, had been called "Little Elk", for the nearby creek, until Eddy moved it further from the creek and renamed it. Subsequent back-and-forth moves and name changes through 1900 resulted in a post office near the mouth of the creek but with the name "Eddyville".
