Eddie Phillips (boxer)
Eddie Phillips (9 November 1911 in Bow, London – 2 March 1995 in London, England) was an English boxer. He was the youngest of five children. At the age of sixteen he became a charabanc driver taking visitors on day outings. He started boxing at the age of eighteen. In 1934, he married Marion Oakley. They had three children, Edward born in 1935, Derek in 1937 and Stephanie born in 1940. Stephanie had two boys Marcus & Gregory Clifford. Gregory had 4 children. Bradley Clifford, Ryan Clifford, Kyle Clifford & Sian Clifford. He was called up for the Royal Air Force in 1940 and reached the rank of corporal. Due to illness he left in 1943. During his career as a boxer he fought 42 bouts, winning 32 fights with seventeen K.Os, six losses, three draws and 1 no contest (32-6-3). Bow, London
Bow () is an area of East London within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is primarily a built-up and mostly residential area and is east of Charing Cross. It was in the traditional county of Middlesex but became part of the County of London following the passing of the Local Government Act 1888. Olof Peder "Olle" Tandberg (10 October 1918 – 26 December 1996) was a Swedish heavyweight boxer. He was the European amateur boxing champion between 1937 and 1939. Biography Tandberg was born in Stockholm, Sweden on 10 October 1918. He represented Djurgårdens IF. During his career he had 30 fights, winning 23 (11 by KO), losing 6 (1 by KO), and drawing 1. He fought in the 1936 Berlin Olympics where he defeated US boxer Art Oliver. He lost in the second round of competition to Hungarian Ferenc Nagy. On 14 August 1949 he lost to Jersey Joe Walcott Arnold Raymond Cream (January 31, 1914 – February 25, 1994), best known as Jersey Joe Walcott, was an American professional boxer who competed from 1930 to 1953. Jack Doyle (boxer)
Joseph "Jack" Doyle (31 August 1913 – 13 December 1978), known as "The Gorgeous Gael", was an Irish boxer, actor, and a tenor. He was born Joseph Doyle (Joe to his friends) but changed to Jack when starting his professional career. At one time or another, Doyle was a contender for the British Boxing Championship. Early years Doyle was born into a working-class family in Cobh, in County Cork, Ireland in 1913. At six feet five inches, he was good with his fists and in 1929, joined the Irish Guards regiment of the British Army based in Wales. There he excelled at boxing and was famed for his strong hooks that won him the British Army Championship. A record of 28 straight victories, 27 by knockout, brought him to the attention of promoter Dan Sullivan. He turned professional and notched up 10 consecutive victories, all inside two rounds, making him the hottest thing in the sport.
