Edward Grant (cricketer)
Edward Grant (16 June 1874 – 12 January 1953) played first-class cricket for Somerset between 1899 and 1901. Grant was a tail-end batsman and a slow bowler. He played first-class matches in each of three seasons from 1899 to 1901, but took only four wickets in all, with a best return of two for 19 against Gloucestershire in 1899. From 1903 to 1912, Grant played Minor Counties cricket regularly for Wiltshire as a lower-order batsman and front-line bowler. Life and career Grant was born in West Dean on 16 June 1874, on the Wiltshire/Hampshire border, but moved with his family to Bath in childhood. He left school as soon as he could, and followed in his father's footsteps to become a gardener, and then later worked as a waterworks inspector. He played club cricket for the Bath Cricket Club, and impressed enough to be selected for Somerset County Cricket Club in 1899. Eddie Grant (baseball)
Edward Leslie Grant (May 21, 1883 – October 5, 1918), was an American professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as a third baseman between 1905 and 1915. Grant became one of the few major league players who were killed in World War I. Biography Grant was born on May 21, 1883, in Franklin, Massachusetts. After completing high school in 1901, Grant attended Dean Academy (now Dean College) in Franklin for a year before enrolling at Harvard University (earning him the nickname "Harvard Eddie"). While at Harvard, Grant was a member of the freshman basketball and baseball teams. He played varsity basketball for the Crimson during his sophomore year in 1903, and was set to play varsity baseball the following spring until he was declared ineligible for playing in a professional independent baseball league the previous summer. Edwin Leslie Grant (born 13 April 1946) is a former Ireland rugby union international from Northern Ireland. Grant was born and raised in Belfast, attending Belfast High School. A winger, Grant played for Belfast's CIYMS club and had yet to represent Ulster when he broke into the Ireland team for the 1971 Five Nations. He played in all of Ireland's Five Nations matches that year and scored three tries, including a memorable intercept on debut against France, to help his side secure a draw. Edward Grant (or Graunt; 1540s–1601) was an English classical scholar, Latin poet, and headmaster of Westminster School. He was also the first biographer of Roger Ascham. Life He was educated at Westminster, and matriculated as a sizar of St. John's College, Cambridge, 22 February 1564. where he completed his exercises for the degree of B. A. about 1567. In February 1572, he was granted the degree of B.A. at Oxford by virtue of his residence at Cambridge, and a month later proceeded M.A. in the same university after obtaining a dispensation which relieved him of the necessity of residence. Anthony Wood says that he was a member first of Christ Church, Oxford or Broadgates Hall, Oxford, and afterwards of Exeter College, Oxford (the university register does not mention his connection with any college). Edward Grant (born Isaac Blank; 9 July 1913 – 20 July 2006) was a South African Trotskyist who spent most of his adult life in Britain. He was a founding member of the group Militant and later Socialist Appeal. Early life Grant's father had settled in South Africa after fleeing Tsarist Russia in the 19th century. His original family name is reported as "Blank" also in his autobiography, but ''The Guardian'' in an obituary suggested that his full birth name was kept unknown. His parents divorced when he was young and he was brought up by his French-born mother who took in lodgers to supplement her income. He was introduced to Trotskyism by one of these lodgers, Ralph Lee (born Raphael Levy), who discussed politics with Isaac and supplied him with copies of ''The Militant'', the Trotskyist newspaper of the Communist League of America. Edmond Montague Grant (born 5 March 1948) is a Guyanese-British singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, known for his genre-blending sound; his music has blended elements of pop, British rock, soul, funk, reggae, electronic music, African polyrhythms, and Latin music genres such as samba, among many others. In addition to this, he also helped to pioneer the genre of "Ringbang". He was a founding member of the Equals, one of the United Kingdom's first racially-mixed pop groups who are best remembered for their million-selling UK chart-topper, the Grant-penned " Baby, Come Back".
