Eddie Eastman
Eddie Eastman (born July 15, 1949 in Terra Nova, Newfoundland and Labrador) is a Canadian country music singer-songwriter. Twenty-five of Eastman's singles made the ''RPM'' Country Tracks charts, including five which reached the Top Ten. Eastman won the Juno Award for Country Male Vocalist of the Year in 1981 and 1983. Terra Nova is a village located southwest of Glovertown on the island of Newfoundland. It was served by the Canadian National Railway in the 1950s. The population in 2006 was 68, this from a historic low of just 28 in 1996. By 2016, the population had risen to 73, down slightly from the total of 83 recorded in 2011. The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) was founded in 1976 as the Academy of Country Music Entertainment to organize, promote and develop a Canadian country music industry. The groundwork for the association began on June 3rd, 1973 when a group of twelve entertainers, promoters and radio personalities met at The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, Ontario and formed a Board of Directors to help promote Canadian content. Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame
The Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame honours Canadian country music artists, builders or broadcasters, living or deceased. The artifact collection includes extensive biographical information on the inductees. It is located in downtown Merritt, British Columbia at 2025 Quilchena Avenue. The facility is open year-round for custom tours, and is open to the public on seasonally adjusted hours. The initiative is governed by a not-for-profit society (the Canadian Country Music Heritage Society). In 2009, Cantos Music Foundation (now the National Music Centre) in Calgary, Alberta, became the owner of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame's artifact collection after a transfer of ownership from Deb Buck, wife of deceased Hall of Fame member Gary Buck. The Juno Awards, more popularly known as the JUNOS, are awards presented annually to Canadian musical artists and bands to acknowledge their artistic and technical achievements in all aspects of music.
