Eddie Bourke
Edmund Francis Bourke ( ga, Éamonn Proinséas De Búrca; 27 January 1852 – 30 August 1926) was an Irish-South African politician and businessman who served as a member of the Transvaal Legislative Council and the first mayor of Pretoria. Biography Eddie Bourke was born in Maritzburg, in the British Colony of Natal. He was the eldest son of John Bourke and Hannah Stadler. John Bourke was an Irish pioneer of the Colony of Natal originally from Castlegar in Ireland. Bourke attended Maritzburg College. After learning accounting from Messrs. A. Fass & Co. Bourke left Natal for the Transvaal in 1877 and accepted the management of Mr. Henry Russell's business (one of the oldest in Pretoria), in January of that year. In 1878, Bourke was recalled to Natal to take temporary charge of Messrs. A. Fass and Co's business in Durban. He returned finally to the Transvaal early in 1879. Volksraad Of The South African Republic
The ''Volksraad of the South African Republic'' (English: "People's Council" of the South African Republic, Afrikaans: Volksraad van die Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek) was the parliament of the former South African Republic (ZAR), it existed from 1840 to 1877, and from 1881 to 1902 in part of what is now South Africa. The body ceased to exist after the British Empire's victory in the Second Anglo-Boer War. The ''Volksraad'' sat in session in Ou Raadsaal in Church Square, Pretoria. Norroy and Ulster King of Arms is the Provincial King of Arms at the College of Heralds with jurisdiction over England north of the Trent and Northern Ireland. The two offices of Norroy and Ulster were formerly separate. Norroy King of Arms is the older office, there being a reference as early as 1276 to a "King of Heralds beyond the Trent in the North". The name ''Norroy'' is derived from the French meaning 'north king'. Sir Arthur Edward Vicars, KCVO (27 July 1862 – 14 April 1921), was a genealogist and heraldic expert. He was appointed Ulster King of Arms in 1893, but was removed from the post in 1908 following the theft of the Irish Crown Jewels in the previous year. He was murdered by the IRA in 1921 during the Irish War of Independence. Antiquarian and expert in heraldry Vicars was born on 27 July 1862 in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, and was the youngest child of Colonel William Henry Vicars of the 61st Regiment of Foot and his wife Jane (originally Gun-Cunninghame). Arcadia is a suburb in Pretoria, South Africa that is known for its historical buildings, embassies and hotels.
