Eddie Blackburn
Edwin Huitson Blackburn (18 April 1957 – 20 April 2018) was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He played in the Football League for Hull City, York City and Hartlepool United, before he finished his career in the Swedish Allsvenskan with Halmstads BK. Career Born in Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham, Blackburn started his career with Hull City as an apprentice in February 1973 before signing a professional contract in September 1974. He made 75 appearances for Hull in all competitions before becoming Barry Lyons' first signing for York City for a fee of £5,750 in April 1980. He finished his first season at the club being named Clubman of the Year as York finished bottom of the Fourth Division. After York signed Roger Jones in the summer of 1982 he joined Hartlepool United on loan in December, before joining the club permanently in January 1983. Houghton-le-Spring
Houghton-le-Spring ( ) is a town in the City of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, North East England which has its recorded origins in Norman times. Historically in County Durham, it is now administered as part of the Tyne and Wear county. It is situated almost equidistant between the cathedral city of Durham southwest and Sunderland about northeast. The town of Seaham and the North Sea lie about directly east. 1975–76 Football League
The 1975–76 season was the 77th completed season of The Football League. Liverpool won their first major trophy under Bob Paisley by narrowly winning the league title after heated competition from Queens Park Rangers. They also lifted the UEFA Cup for the second time in their history. Dave Sexton's QPR side failed to win their first-ever league title but still managed to finish in their highest ever position of runners-up and qualify for the UEFA Cup. The 1986– 87 season was the 88th completed season of The Football League. Play-offs to determine promotion places were introduced in 1987 so that more clubs remained eligible for promotion closer to the end of the season, and at the same time to aid in the reduction over two years of the number of clubs in the First Division from 22 to 20. At the same time, automatic promotion and relegation between the Fourth Division and the Football Conference was introduced for one club, replacing the annual application for re-election to the League of the bottom four clubs and linking the League to the developing National League System pyramid. Bob Paisley’s last season as Liverpool manager ended on a high as they topped the First Division with a comfortable lead. Paisley retired as Liverpool manager with a record 21 prizes in nine years. Champions Aston Villa finished a disappointing 11th but made up for this by triumphing in the European Cup at the first attempt. Liverpool made up for the previous season's slip in league form by winning the league championship for the 13th time in their history, fighting off competition from Ipswich Town, Manchester United and Spurs. Ron Saunders completed the revival of Birmingham club Aston Villa, as they won the First Division for the first time in 71 years. Villa competed in a two-horse race with Ipswich Town during the final stages of the season, eventually finishing four points ahead of the Suffolk side.
