Ed Hurst
Ed Hurst (July 16, 1926 – October 30, 2020) was an American radio and television personality. He referred to himself at one time as the "Stone-age Dick Clark". Early years Hurst was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey and graduated from Atlantic City High School. He started his career from 1943 to 1946 at WFPG, in Atlantic City. Hurst then did a radio show on WPEN-AM 950, out of Philadelphia, called ''The 950 Club'' with Joe Grady from 1946 (until 1955) before he teamed up with Joe Grady to do ''The Grady and Hurst Show'' on Philadelphia TV, which was broadcast in the tri-state area. ''The Grady and Hurst Show'', which started in 1952, was the first to show teens dancing (from 11 a.m. to noon every Saturday) in a studio. The groundbreaking format influenced programs like ''American Bandstand'' and others. WWAC (1020 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Ocean City, New Jersey, and serving the Atlantic City area of the Jersey Shore. It is owned by WIBG, LLC, and broadcasts a Spanish-language Contemporary Hits radio format. WWAC is co-owned with WIBG-FM, an oldies station licensed to Avalon, New Jersey. By day, WWAC is powered at 1,900 watts, non-directional. WWAC's signal reaches from Toms River to Cape May. But 1020 AM is a clear channel frequency reserved for 50,000 watt Class A KDKA Pittsburgh. ''The Press of Atlantic City'' is the fourth-largest daily newspaper in New Jersey. Originally based in Pleasantville, it is the primary newspaper for southeastern New Jersey and the Jersey Shore. The newspaper designated market runs from Waretown in southern Ocean County (exit 69 on the Garden State Parkway) down to Cape May (exit 0). It also reaches west to Cumberland County. The paper has a combined print and digital daily circulation of 72,846 and a Sunday circulation of 95,626. The ''Press'' closed its printing facility in Pleasantville in 2014, at which time it outsourced printing to a facility in Freehold. It is one of the oldest continuously operating radio stations in the United States, originating in Chicago before moving to Philadelphia in 1934. WVUE (Delaware)
WVUE, VHF analog channel 12, was a television station licensed to Wilmington, Delaware, United States, which operated from 1949 to 1958. For the last part of its history, it attempted to target the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania market. The station's studios were located in Wilmington. History WVUE first signed in March 1949 as WDEL-TV, owned by the Steinman family of Lancaster, Pennsylvania along with WDEL radio (AM 1150 and FM 93.7, now WSTW). It received a full license on June 30. It shared a studio and tower on Shipley Road in north Wilmington with its radio sisters. It operated on channel 7 as the NBC affiliate for Wilmington, and also carried a secondary affiliation with the DuMont Television Network. At the time, Wilmington was a separate television market. However, WDEL-TV found the going somewhat difficult.
