Ed Flanagan (American Football)
Edward Joseph Flanagan (born February 23, 1944) is a former American Football center. He played college football at Purdue University and professional football in the National Football League (NFL) for the Detroit Lions from 1965 to 1974 and for the San Diego Chargers from 1975 to 1976. He was selected to four Pro Bowls. Married to Tina Reed Flanagan and he has three sons and a daughter. Early years Flanagan was born in 1944 in San Bernardino, California. His family moved to Altoona, Pennsylvania, where Flanagan played football under coach Earl Strohm at Altoona High School. When he was inducted into the Blair County Sports Hall of Fame in 1987, Flanagan noted that he had not been a star player in high school and was not a starter until his senior year. Center or Centre (C) is a position in gridiron football. The center is the innermost lineman of the offensive line on a football team's offense. The center is also the player who passes (or "snaps") the ball between his legs to the quarterback at the start of each play. 1964 Purdue Boilermakers Football Team
The 1964 Purdue Boilermakers football team was an American football team that represented Purdue University during the 1964 Big Ten Conference football season. In their ninth season under head coach Jack Mollenkopf, the Boilermakers compiled a 6–3 record, finished in third place in the Big Ten Conference with a 5–2 record against conference opponents, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 168 to 146. Oakland Invaders
The Oakland Invaders were a professional American football team that played in the United States Football League (USFL) from 1983 through 1985. Based in Oakland, California, they played at the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum. The team can trace its history to 1977 when they played in the California Football League as the Twin Cities Cougars, and won four league championships (1979-1982). Richard Marvin Butkus (born December 9, 1942) is an American former professional football player, sports commentator, and actor. He played football as a middle linebacker for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL) from 1965 to 1973. He was invited to eight Pro Bowls, named a first-team All-Pro six times, and was twice recognized by his peers as the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year. He was renowned as a fierce tackler and for the relentless effort with which he played and is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most intimidating linebackers in pro football history. Victor Woodrow Wertz (February 9, 1925 – July 7, 1983) was an American professional baseball first baseman and outfielder. He had a 17-year Major League Baseball (MLB) career from 1947 to 1963. He played for the Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Browns / Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, and Minnesota Twins; all teams within the American League. The Blue–Gray Football Classic was an annual American college football all-star game held in Alabama, usually in late December and often on Christmas Day. The brainchild of Alabama college football legend Champ Pickens, the contest began in 1939 and was held annually through 2001, with the exception of 1943 due to World War II.
