Ed Christie
Ed Christie (born May 20, 1956) is an art director and puppet designer. Christie started out as an intern with Henson Associates in 1978. He graduated from UMass Amherst with a BFA/Education in 1979. After years of learning Muppet design techniques, and building many of the classic Muppet characters, Christie was promoted to Muppet Supervisor in charge of ''Sesame Street'' (1991-1996). He was later promoted to Vice President/NY Muppet Workshop Supervisor (1997-2004) as well as Art Director for Henson on ''Sesame Street''. He also contributed his skills to Henson Licensing and Publishing. In 2004, Christie left Henson and was contracted by Sesame Workshop where he is currently designing characters for the domestic version of ''Sesame Street'' and Sesame Street International. He has designed the Muppet characters for Sesame India, Bangladesh, Russia, Israel, South Africa, Egypt, China, Poland, France, Mexico, Canada, Japan and others. The Jim Henson Company (formerly known as Muppets, Inc., Henson Associates, Inc., and Jim Henson Productions, Inc.; commonly referred to as Henson) is an American entertainment company located in Los Angeles, California. Sesame Workshop (SW), originally known as the Children's Television Workshop (CTW), is an American nonprofit organization that has been responsible for the production of several educational children's programs—including its first and best-known, ''Sesame Street''—that have been televised internationally. Television producer Joan Ganz Cooney and foundation executive Lloyd Morrisett developed the idea to form an organization to produce ''Sesame Street'', a television series which would help children, especially those from low-income families, prepare for school. The World According To Sesame Street
''The World According to Sesame Street'' is a 2006 documentary film created by Participant Productions, looking at the cultural impact of the children's television series ''Sesame Street'', and the complexities of creating international adaptations. It focuses on the adaptations of ''Sesame Street'' in Bangladesh (''Sisimpur''), Kosovo (''Rruga Sesam'', in Albanian; and ''Ulica Sezam'', in Serbian), and South Africa (''Takalani Sesame''). The film premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival in the documentary competition. The film was released on DVD on October 24, 2006. It was also featured that month on the public television documentary series ''Independent Lens''. ''Doonesbury'', also known as ''Doonesbury: A Musical Comedy'', is a 1983 musical with a book and lyrics by Garry Trudeau and music by Elizabeth Swados. Based on Trudeau's comic strip of the same name, it served to change the format of the strip from an episodic satire of college campus life that existed on a floating timeline to a more character driven, serialized political cartoon series in which characters changed, aged, and died, while still retaining a satirical political bent. ''Sugar Babies'' is a musical revue conceived by Ralph G. Allen and Harry Rigby, with music by Jimmy McHugh, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and Al Dubin and various others. Encores!
Encores! is a Tony-honored concert series dedicated to performing rarely heard American musicals, usually with their original orchestrations. Presented by New York City Center since 1994, Encores! has revived shows by Irving Berlin, Rodgers & Hart, George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Leonard Bernstein, and Stephen Sondheim, among many others. Encores! was the brainchild of Judith Daykin, who launched the series shortly after becoming Executive Director of City Center in 1992. ''Carnival'' is a musical, originally produced by David Merrick on Broadway in 1961, with the book by Michael Stewart and music and lyrics by Bob Merrill. The musical is based on the 1953 film '' Lili'', which again was based on the short story and treatment titled "The Seven Souls of Clement O'Reilly" by Paul Gallico.
