Ed Block Courage Award
The Ed Block Courage Award is an annual award presented to a player from each team in the National Football League (NFL) who are voted for by their teammates as role models of inspiration, sportsmanship, and courage. Named in memory of Ed Block, a humanitarian and athletic trainer for the Baltimore Colts, the award is administered by the Ed Block Courage Award Foundation. Sponsorship proceeds promote the prevention of child abuse by raising awareness of the epidemic and assisting agencies who provide for the care and treatment of abused children. Purpose and development Ed Block was head athletic trainer for the Baltimore Colts from 1954 to 1977. He had earned a master's degree from the University of Missouri in 1937 and, following service as an army officer in World War II, a doctorate in rehabilitation and physical therapy from Columbia University. Steve Freeman (football)
Steven Jay Freeman (born May 8, 1953) is a former American football defensive back, and currently serves as an American football game official for the National Football League (NFL). Freeman played college football at Mississippi State University, becoming the Bulldogs' leader in interceptions during the 1973 and 1974 seasons. He was later named as one of the Southeastern Conference Football Legends. He was selected by the NFL's New England Patriots during the 1975 NFL Draft. However, he was released by the Patriots before the start of the regular season, and eventually signed with the Buffalo Bills. Freeman spent 12 season with Buffalo, compiling 23 career interceptions and three touchdowns. In 1980 alone, he intercepted seven passes for 107 yards and one touchdown. Jon Giesler
Jon William Giesler (born December 23, 1956) is a former American football player. He played 10 seasons, principally at the offensive left tackle position, for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL) from 1979 to 1988. He played college football at the University of Michigan from 1975 to 1978. Early years Giesler was born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1956. Robb Riddick
Robbert Lee Riddick (born April 26, 1957) is a former American football running back in the NFL who played for the Buffalo Bills. He played college football at Millersville University, as a running back and defensive back. He set numerous of the school's records in football as well as track and field. Riddick was drafted by the Bills in the ninth round, 241st overall, of the 1981 NFL Draft. Riddick played six seasons for the Bills. He started eight games and ran for 632 total yards in 1986, and he became a short-yardage specialist in 1988. He sat out the 1982 and 1985 seasons after sustaining injuries to his right knee during training camp. He played as a linebacker for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL) from 1974 to 1987. Jerry O'Dell Butler (born October 12, 1957 in Ware Shoals, South Carolina) is a former professional American football wide receiver in the National Football League.
