Littlewoods Pools Building
The Littlewoods Pools building, located in Liverpool, England, was built in 1938 to serve as the headquarters of the Littlewoods football pools enterprise. It overlooks Edge Lane and Wavertree Botanic Park, and its design makes it a prominent landmark. The building was requisitioned by the government during World War II to house the postal censorship department, and was later used for the manufacture of floors for Halifax bombers. After returning to Littlewoods' ownership, the site was eventually closed in 1994, and now stands empty. A fire in 2018 caused damage to a large part of the interior. However, plans are underway to convert the building into a film studio, which will be tenanted by Twickenham Studios and Liverpool John Moores University. Twickenham Studios (formerly known as Twickenham Film Studios) is a film studio in St Margarets, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, that is used by various motion picture and television companies. It was established in 1913 by Ralph Jupp on the site of a former ice rink. At the time of its original construction, it was the largest film studio in the United Kingdom. In February 2012, it was announced that due to the studio going into administration, it would close before June, just a year before its centenary. The studio was subsequently saved from closure, with a new owner acquiring the studio in August 2012. Merseyrail is a commuter rail network serving the Liverpool City Region and adjacent areas of Cheshire and Lancashire. Chavasse Park is an open space in the city centre of Liverpool, England, United Kingdom. It was named in commemoration of the Chavasse family; Francis (2nd Bishop of Liverpool) and his twin sons Christopher Maude Chavasse (an Olympic athlete and later Bishop of Rochester), and Noel Godfrey Chavasse (an Olympic athlete, doctor, and one of only three men to win the Victoria Cross and Bar).
